Son of 9/11 hero forced to drop 61 pounds to join FDNY
Matthew Asaro is no longer too beefy for the Bravest — he has made it into the FDNY’s newly sworn probationary class after losing 61 pounds in two years.
The son of firefighter Carl Asaro, who was killed on 9/11, Asaro, 25, first tried out in 2013, but was told that at 5-foot-8 and 262 pounds, he was too heavy. He vowed to lose the weight and got down to 201 by late June.
“Firefighting is in my blood and bones,” he told The Post.
