Step Inside This Charming Loft Converted from a Flour Mill

All photos by David Lauer via Dwell
Luxe loft living isn't just for New Yorkers. Case in point: this lovely light-filled aerie masterminded by architecture firm Robb Studio with interior design outfit Studio Gild in Denver, Colorado, recently showcased on Dwell.com. Occupying 3,000 square feet in a 1920s former flour mill converted into capacious apartments, the flat has all the things we've come to expect from lofts. Exposed concrete walls and metal ductwork? Check. Broad gridded windows for letting in maximum natural light? Check.

Denver isn't often thought of as a top-tier destination for architecture—though more than a few Curbed staffers would argue it should be: Between the city's Clyfford Still Museum, completed by Allied Works Architecture in 2011 and the David Adjaye-designed Museum of Contemporary Art, there's plenty quality design to be seen.
Now, a new boutique hotel called The Art is going up opposite Daniel Libeskind's shrapnel-reminiscent Denver Art Museum (DAM). Curated by the DAM's former lead for contemporary art, Dianne Vanderlip, works slated for The Art include a mural by the trailblazing conceptual and Minimalist artist Sol LeWitt and works by Ed Ruscha and others.
The hotel will also be home to works in mosaic tile, Pop Art, and photography. >>

Buy a Renovated 1890 Mansion in Downtown Denver

imagereader (5).jpeg
Location: Denver, Colorado
Price: $1,985,000
Built three years before the Silver Crash of 1893, the historic Waldron Bonfils Mansion was constructed just as the frontier boomtown of Denver, Colorado was coming into its own as a cosmopolitan city, with opulent homes and opera houses joining the saloons and gambling house frequented by silver and gold miners. The three-bedroom home in the Capitol Hill neighborhood was designed by the English architect Frederick Sterner with formal living and dining areas, handsome woodwork, ceiling moldings, oak floors, stained glass windows, and four fireplaces. The home has since been remodeled, and now has a chef's kitchen, a library, and a master bathroom with a private deck. A separate building on the property's grounds comes with five rental apartments, for a total of 11,703 square feet. It just hit the market asking $1,985,000.

Late Denver Post Owner's Mansion Listed for $1.74M

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.
Location: Denver, Colo.
Price: $1,735,000
The Skinny: Built in 1908 by architects Maurice Biscoe and Henry Hewitt for mining investor Guilford S. Wood, this Mediterranean-inspired Denver manse is now better known as the Bonfils Mansion, after Denver Post owner Helen Bonfils, who purchased the property in 1947. The extravagantly detailed mansion has since passed through several owners who have made some regrettable alterations, but have also preserved some of the house's most memorable spaces, including the intricately carved French doors in the dining and living rooms. The kitchen was recently updated by designer William Ohs, but some of the home's other areas are in need of some attention, like a worn out swimming pool and patio. Listed for $1.74M, the Bonfils Mansion is the centerpiece of a condo development, of which it is now a unit, and benefits from a maintenance staff paid by the condo association.

New Broncos QB Peyton Manning Buys Big in Colorado

If quarterback Peyton Manning's move to the Denver Broncos came as a surprise when it was announced back in March, the elder Manning has wasted no time in committing to his new hometown. Rather than renting, Peyton plunked down nearly $4.6M for a seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom gated Georgian mansion with a seven-car garage, an elevator, and a panic room. The 16,000-square-foot spread sits on more than three acres in Denver's tony Cherry Hills Village neighborhood and includes extravagances like "a dog room with a heated indoor/outdoor kennel for the four-legged family members."

Ramey Caulkins' Chic, Kid-Friendly Family Room in Denver

Welcome to Why This Works, a new Curbed column in which decorator and former shelter-magazine editor Alexa Stevenson looks point-blank at professionally decorated rooms and breaks down the elements that make it work. Have a suggestion for someone whose work should be showcased? Do let us know.

The family room is often one of the hardest-working spaces in the house, and therefore tends to suffer when it comes to design. Not so with this Denver room created by decorator Ramey Caulkins of local firm Griffin Design Source. Caulkins managed to make this particular family room sophisticated and pulled-together yet sturdy enough to manage children and, at times, rowdy adults.
