St. Patrick's Cathedral was started back in the late 1800's as another "Folly" ( like Alaska was "Seward's Folly" and the steamboat was "Fulton's Folly" and so on)
When they began it was all farmland up here! At that time the City had 200,000 Catholics and more were coming every day
But the planners knew some day this would all be congested too and the Cathedral would provide an oasis of calm and a place to pray amidst the hustle and bustle of what would be Midtown Manhattan ( now with its weird pencil super-high buildings)

I come down on the subway to the South End of Central Park
and then look for bonnets etc.
