Day FIVE of PORTMANIA 17 is today!
Quesse made this wallpaper! he’s attended PORTMANIA every year. more or less. there was that one time we had to change venues to be cheaper and, like a lot of people, he skipped out that year. but anyway I can excuse his mix-up of how many PORTMANIA’S there have been. and who can blame him? there’s 17 of them for crying out loud.
but enough of that. he calls his piece “PORTMANIA Submission #1″. WHICH I hope means there’ll be a #2!! because we have nothing ELSE!!!!!
OH MY GOSH. I remember brushing my teeth this morning but I can’t remember if I flossed or not.

Thanks to Kitten (via AmazingPortmanClub), we have a new scan from Natalie’s appearance in People, plus two outtakes from photographer Chris Floyd’s Twitter.
Portmania—our annual week-long celebration of our namesake’s birthday—is quickly approaching. It would be awesome if any of you Natalie fans out there can contribute fanworks to celebrate the occasion. You can contact us with any submissions via the embarrassingly outdated staff page. Hopefully, Dazza can dig up Sanjiro, who will count us down to the 9th of June.
It’s a new month, which means a new Natalie wallpaper calendar. This month we can thank our very own Rachel once again. Another great wallpaper if I do say so myself.
It seems that Natalie was in Denmark this weekend (presumably for Benjamin’s work), as she was pictured at a dance rehearsal at the Copenhagen Opera House yesterday. Thanks to cherryvanilla for the find.
We’ve got a jam-packed edition of mini news items today.
– Let’s start with this Instyle interview with some of Natalie’s beauty tips (tip one should be “genetics”) and her favourite beauty products.
– Here is the trailer for Marielle Heller’s Diary of a Teenage Girl. What has this got to do with Natalie? Heller is directing Natalie’s upcoming film, On the Basis of Sex.
– I didn’t get a chance to fanboy it up for my favourite moment from Natalie’s Cannes appearance – the time she met Annie Clark (better known as St. Vincent) and her girlfriend, Cara Delevingne (model and actress).
– Another cute moment during the festival was Mindy Kaling, Natalie’s co-star in No Strings Attached.
– And finally, this update was written while listening to the beautiful main theme for Knight of Cups.
We have a great weekend surprise thanks to Eden_Liao. It is a video of Natalie picking out the scents that go into her Miss Dior perfume. Of most interest is that Natalie is speaking French throughout…perhaps French fans can update us in the comments as to how her pronunciation and fluency is progressing.
Struggling with the video autoplay so I am putting it after the jump. Or click the thumb below to go to the site and view it there.
Natalie makes an appearance in People Magazine’s coverage of the Cannes Film Festival. Click the thumb below to view the gorgeous full sized version, along with a short article.
They also have a video where they asked Natalie and a couple other actors to play a word association game. Thanks to Sarah and Amo.
We’ve updated the gallery with over 40 new and HQ photos of Natalie attending Harvard’s 2015 Class Day at her alma mater in Cambridge, MA yesterday. Thanks to Iktriad for the finds.
Natalie’s Harvard commencement speech is now online and, I’m kind of shocked. Natalie has never been the greatest of public speakers, but this is really great. It moves along at a rapid pace, almost like stream of consciousness, but in it there is a lot of heart, insight, and humour. For Natalie fans seeking new informational nuggets about Natalie’s life (Harvard and everything else), there is certainly a lot of that too. Thanks to Belerofonte.
Just when I thought we were never going to see an edgier Natalie editorial after an abundance of beautiful but boring Dior spreads, 2b management Photographer’s Agency posted this Instagram snap of Natalie posing with veteran fashion photographer Ellen von Unwerth. Could a new photo shoot be coming soon?
Thanks to anqxxx for the find.
Natalie is on the cover of The Guardian for an interview piece out of Cannes. Thankfully the online version is already up and can be viewed here.
It’s clear that Portman, with her record of support for a range of impeccably liberal causes (from poverty to animal rights to, um, vegan shoes), has the best of intentions; Israel’s rightward march in recent years seems as much to her distaste as anyone else’s. “You look at your country and it’s not what you want it to be,” she says. “It’s not what you wish it could be. But of course we have to strive for what could be, but also live with what exists, and what is, and be pragmatic.
Thanks to Kitten and Amo.
The Australian version of The Daily Telegraph caught up with Natalie during her recent visit to Beijing for the Dior exhibition. It sounds like Natalie was in a really good mood because the interviewer came away feeling like she doesn’t take herself too seriously. Contrast that to the recent THR interview and it becomes clear that trying to pin Natalie down under one label is a fool’s errand.
“You need huge levels of perseverance and focus to complete your initial vision and keep it going ’til the end,” she says.“Now I get how hard the director works on intensive planning long before we actors show up – and of course afterwards.“It’s amazing how small the actual filming part of it is!”
The full interview, including her appreciation of Australians and Emma Watson, is here. Thanks to Belerofonte.
There are so many poll options to choose from but I’m going for something a bit odd. Natalie dropped out of Macbeth in order to film TOLAD. Both screened for the first time in Cannes. Natalie’s film got a mostly tepid reaction, but is obviously a wonderful achievement for her. Macbeth is getting some real rave reviews like “the beautiful ferocity and complexity of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” is reborn, forged in iron, blood, and fire”.
I’m sure Natalie wouldn’t swap the experiences but I’m curious what the fans think. So…
As for the previous poll about Natalie’s four upcoming projects, my choice came dead last while the latest addition, Jackie, nabbed top spot.
