2 skin whitening products sold online found with high mercury levels

SINGAPORE - The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has issued an alert on two skin whitening products that were found to contain high levels of mercury.
The products, Pati IbuPutih by Janna Lawwa Day Creamy Face n Body White (Putih Gebu Kekal) and Pati IbuPutih by Janna Lawwa Night Creamy Face n Body White (Putih Gebu Kekal), were sold on blogs and shopping websites.
The products were detected through checks conducted by the HSA. Mercury is prohibited for use in cosmetic products.
People who bought the products are advised to stop using them and to discard them.
Members of the public can go to www.healthdangers.sg to learn more about the dangers of buying illegal health products from dubious sources.
It is an offence to import, sell and supply illegal or unapproved health products. Anyone found guilty of doing so can face a fine of up to $100,000 and/or a jail term of up to three years.
