J.Crew fires exec who mocked mass firings

A J.Crew vice president who The Post revealed had laid off members of his team and then mocked the firings in a string of drink-fueled party pics that he posted to social media got a taste of his own medicine.

On the day the cruel pics were posted, Rhett had fired several workers who were among the 175 layoffs at the struggling company on June 10, sources told The Post.
He then celebrated the axing with three work buddies at Linen Hall bar in the East Village, where he recorded the night with photos containing captions of “Hunger Games” jokes — the young adult books and movies in which teens are forced to fight each other for survival.

In another pic, the 31-year-old executive flipped the bird to underling Vanessa de Jesus, who works in the men’s merchandising department. The rosé-guzzling gang also included retail men’s merchandiser Andrew Ruth and J.Crew employee Julie Stamos.
Stamos posted the finger-flipping photo and wrote next to it #forthewin and #damnitfeelsgoodtobeagangster.
The photos have since been scrubbed from their accounts.
Reps for the clothing company would not confirm or deny the firing and offered the same statements they gave when The Post exposed the callous photo captions.
“We do not condone this behavior in any way. Individuals’ actions do not represent the culture of our company — this is not who we are,” the statement said, adding that the mass layoffs 10 days ago “were not something we took lightly.”
Outraged customers have threatened to boycott the company over the incident and flooded the company’s Facebook page with angry messages.
“After seeing the behavior Alejandro Rhett I will NEVER shop at your store again. This is a disgusting way to behave after laying people off,” wrote Ian W. Miller, in one of the most recent posts to the page.
“You should be ashamed to have a person with such a lack of character in a leadership role.”
The layoffs that led to Rhett’s own firing followed a first-quarter earnings report that showed a 5 percent drop in J.Crew’s sales and an overall operating loss of nearly $521 million.
