Mashable Taps Reality TV Veteran to Head Video Division

In yet another example of an editorial company turning to the potentially lucrative branded video business, Mashable has tapped a reality television veteran to heads its new Mashable Studios division.
Eric Korsh joins the media company known for its tech and social media coverage as director of Mashable Studios, where he will oversee the development and creation of video programming and branded entertainment. Korsh most recently served as a senior vp at marketing agency DigitasLBi and was formerly COO of Scout Productions, producers of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and and other reality series. He has also worked as a producer of television commercials, documentary films and music videos.
In his new role, Korsh will build a team to develop, produce and distribute original video programming in addition to developing custom video solutions for brand partners. He will report to executive editor Jim Roberts and chief strategy officer Adam Ostrow
"With the addition of Eric to our team, we have a great opportunity to diversify our storytelling voice with compelling videos that our global audience can engage with and share," Roberts said. Added Ostrow: “We see branded video entertainment as core to our long-term strategy, and Eric brings a tremendous track record of both innovating for clients and creating original programming that resonates with audiences like ours."
New York-based Mashable was founded in 2005 by Pete Cashmore to cover the digital landscape and today has 42 million monthly unique visitors. The company raised $17 million in funding from investors including Time Warner Investments in January of this year, fueling its push into original video content. On the editorial side, the company tapped Mike Schmidt to expand the website's video offers as director of editorial video.
The company has also inked a deal for new office space in Culver City, significantly increasing its presence in Los Angeles.
Mashable is the latest in a string of editorial brands to dive into original video programming. BuzzFeed announced the creation of BuzzFeed Motion Pictures in August last year and Vox Media recently launched an entertainment division based out of Los Angeles.
