It’s a tough ride from Tower Bridge to the Eiffel Tower at the best of times, but cycling the 200 miles in less than 24 hours is harder still. Undaunted by the prospect of being saddle sore, Chris Wilson from Barking fire station set off for Paris on Wednesday afternoon with 14 other cyclists, six of them in the Brigade.
They’re aiming to raise £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of Brian Florey, a 35 year old father of two, who was tragically killed while training for Macmillan’s official ride in 2012. Brian was a popular figure on many fire stations, working to repair and maintain the Brigade’s vehicles.

On this day in 1974, our crews were called to a bomb that exploded at the Houses of Parliament. Eleven people were injured and the bomb caused extensive damage when it exploded in a corner of Westminster Hall.
It's thought the explosion fractured a gas main which caused the fire to spread quickly through the old hall which was centuries old.

Did you know half of the people who die in fires are in receipt of care? We want to prevent avoidable fire deaths, but need carers to help us.
We're asking care workers to get in touch if they spot any tell tale signs like burn marks on carpets or chairs from cigarettes, or a smoke alarm that has run out of battery.

Thick black smoke filled the air and was visible from miles around, so residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
The fire was spotted by a member of the public and crews helped six people to safety on their arrival.

Crews recently rescued a mischievous baby fox that got it’s head stuck in a wall at a house in Sutton.
Firefighter John Griffin who was attended the incident, said: “An extension was being built at the back of the property and a family of foxes had got in under the floor. There was a hole in one of the breeze blocks and the cub had got its head stuck.
“We covered the fox over with a towel and chiselled the wall around it and as soon as it was free it ran straight back under t...
