Seattle: City of the Future
Seattle has long fancied itself a city of the future. It’s home of the Space Needle! The monorail! That ginormous dot-com that is swallowing every mom-and-pop bookstore and retailer on the planet! (Don’t speak its name!) Seattle was among the first to jump into the climate fight, and has one of the most aggressive climate action plans in the U.S. But can the Emerald City maintain its Jetsons-in-Ecotopia image as it barrels into the mid-21st century? Does it hold lessons for other U.S. cities struggling to adapt in a warming world? Grist sets out to answer these and other vexing questions in this daily, 12-part series. (Actually, there are 17 parts if you count the goodies we’ve grabbed from the archives.) Happy reading.
