A new living wall is being claimed as the largest in Europe. Measuring 1,027 sq m (11,055 sq ft), it comprises around 97,000 plants and is installed along the sides of a recently built multistory parking structure at the headquarters of the UK's National Grid on the outskirts of Warwick.  read more

Lotus leaf-inspired aircraft wing coating may repel bugs to ease fuel consumption
NASA has carried out testing of a series of non-stick coatings for aircraft wings, finding that one inspired by lotus leaves showed good potential to shrug off blasts of bug guts to lessen drag and, by extension, ease the consumption of fuel.  read more

Wood pulp-derived nanocellulose is turning out to be pretty useful stuff. Most recently, researchers from Sweden and the US have used the material to build soft-bodied batteries that are more shock- and stress-resistant than their traditional hard counterparts.  read more

A team of researchers has discovered that Earth-sized exoplanets orbit their parent stars in the same way that our planet orbits our own Sun. The discovery further narrows the characteristics of worlds that could potentially play host to extraterrestrial life.  read more
