In June 1989, several hundred people died in the bloody crackdown on a democratic protest in China's Tiananmen Square.
Tanks rumbled through the streets, soldiers firing at unarmed students, in a show of force that shocked much of the world.
To commemorate the quelling of the riots, a handmade watch was later given to troops and police who took part.
Twenty-six years on, master watchmaker Xu Yaonan, now 80 years old, spoke to BBC News about that special watch and the rise and fall of his factory.
