PICTURE OF THE DAY
The Andromeda Galaxy
Jacob Bers from Palo Alto, California
The Andromeda Galaxy (M31) is the largest galaxy in our Local Group of galaxies, which contains the Milky Way and some 40 other members. The photographer wanted to show the swirling maelstrom that is M31’s core, so he tried to display as much dust as possible in his processing. (3.2-inch Vixen ED80SF refractor at f/6.25, Nikon D5300 DSLR, ISO 800, eighteen 7-minute exposures, stacked)
