There was positive news for Poland this week as Ewa Kopacz confirmed the country had been awarded the largest amount of EU funding for the next six years.

On Thursday the operational programme for the 2014-2020 period was announced and the PM told reporters that the PLN 500 bln funding was down to a lot of planning and hard work. “We will have at our disposal the largest amount in the history of development funds. This is the result of several years of preparation and difficult but successful negotiations conducted by our government. You could say that we played for the full pot and won. We now have at our disposal the largest amount awarded in the history of development funding,” she added.

“The public consultations involved many thousands of participants including citizens, experts, representatives of non-governmental organisations, local activists and scientists. We have listened to how Poles wish to see this country developed.”

According to TVN24, the investment money is set to be spent in a number of key areas including: PLN 16 bln on public transport, PL 20 bln increasing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises, helping to create 500,000 new jobs and modernising motorways, local roads and rail networks.
