What was most symbolic: Every year for many years the Biggest Gay Pride march of them all, in NYC, was led by the "Man -Boy Love League"-- in other words, predatory pedophiles.
Dizzy gays in NYC saw nothing wrong with this and wondered why it did not "play in Peoria" or among white ethnics in NYC, or among macho Blacks ( the majority of the black male population, with their endless obsession with contact sports and exaggerated muscularity at the expense of an interest in the Arts and Sciences).
Most people have forgotten about this period of American life, but it was during this period that new Right Wing groups began to thrive, including survivalists, and a special breed of popular radio talk show host such as Rush Limbaugh.
