Yes, It is Still Winter- WNYC

This Time It's Snow, Then Rain and Sleet. Then Snow Again. Sigh.

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

When Staten Island Chuck the groundhog predicted six more weeks of winter, he didn't mention we'd keep getting a storm a week. But here we go again: another winter storm will hit the tri-state area Thursday.

Forecasters are predicting snow starting early Thursday morning, with up to 10 inches of snow accumulating throughout the day. The National Weather Service expects temperatures will hover around freezing, which will likely result in a messy wintry mix of snow, rain, sleet. Then as temperatures fall and the wind picks up Thursday night, it may all turn to ice.

So commuters should once again don winter boots, tread carefully, and anticipate potential traffic and transit delays. Updates below on all the weather's effects.
  • Alternate side parking rules are suspended through Saturday.
  • The City Office of Emergency Management has issued a Hazardous Travel Advisory for Thu, 2/13, and Fri, 2/14. The Dept. of Buildings is reminding property owners to de-ice public areas and safely remove snow from roofs, overhangs, and awnings.
  • Metro North is running a reduced schedule Thursday, combining some trains.
  • New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie Has Declared a State of Emergency in preparation for the storm.
