Just remember-- that first snowfall of the Winter, which was so sweet and silent in NYC as it came down in the afternoon and then really began to "stick" as the afternoon started to turn darker and darker..
Yes, winter had finally come, and it did not seem threatening at all; in fact, that first snowfall was not much in terms of net inches and was melting away busily the next day, children could not even make snowmen.
Oh, it looks like NYC will have one more snowfall yet this winter at least ( there are some 26 days left to winter or just about...one like this one due in a couple of days, as a matter of fact._
Of course this time, there is still a trace left of "les neiges d'antan" ( well d'antan of this winter) , people whose electric bills doubled for the month of January because of fuel costs, and days and days spent digging out of SERIOUS snowfalls, to say nothing of the potholes that formed and all the garbage piling up that could not be collected (luckily, the polar vortex also put a damper on the rat population).
So let's see the gentle dark beginnings once more
