Review from Dahna S.
Easily the best steak I've ever had. Easily. Like, backflip-inducing, tongue-dancing, heart-palpitating... deliciousness.
The ambiance is perfectly steak-houseish. But not like that old Manhattan steak-housey vibe where the wallpaper is faded and the carpet has seen better days (nothing against the vintagie feel!). Rather, this place had a modern-old timey thing going on with the red and black decor and ornate chandeliers. The walls are covered with black and white photos of scantily clad ladies.. I mean hey, the name Strip House makes it too easy, right?
So I got the bone-in ribeye medium rare (duhh) along with the crisp goose fat friend potatoes and black truffle creamed spinach. [Did ya feel that? Yeah, that was my cholesterol sky-rocketing.] As soon as this beautiful hunk of meat was placed before me, I knew I was in for a treat. There was a perfect blackened char on the outside that almost crunched when I cut into it. The center was oh-so pink. Perfectly pink. I put that thing on my tongue and melted right away... like buttah! Best bite of steak ever. EVER. The sides were equally as delicious-- The potatoes were crisp, fatty, and salty. The creamed spinach was so damn creamy, these people do not mess around! Mmmmm... aaaaand it's nap time. -
Review from Sophie F.
I expect only one thing on my birthday: an epic meal that includes steak and bacon. All washed down with quality dranks. Hubs brought me to strip house where I had both steak and bacon and a few other delicious eats on the menu.
Strip house seems like the perfect place where execs get together to not talk business while talking business. A place where high rolling partners get together with the competition to try to woo them away from their current firm. So very stuffy, very dark, and very formal. That's the appearance but in reality you see a few families and couples.
We had the option of upstairs or downstairs and picked upstairs. Our waiter was very attentive, very formal. He may have had on white gloves. This was a few months agoso I could be wrong. I almost asked if it was okay to put my elbows on the table. Okay, not really, but it felt like that kind of place at first. Then you realize it's a restaurant and like you, people are there to enjoy a good meal.
For drinks I stuck with prosecco, after all, it was my special day. Hubby got the Chimay Rouge. Both drinks were great but the Chimay...Oh the Chimay. I think I found a new favorite beer.
We started off with bacon. Hands down best bacon I've had. Ever. Fresh, thick and delicious. The baby arugula it came with was good and made me feel a little less glutinous. For dinner we got the Cote de Boeuf for two, medium. Excellent choice. If you like your steak a bit more fatty, this is the way to go. Fat adds a lot of flavor and makes for a juicier steak. Best part if you ask me. If you ask my husband, he would say it was all in the char. After the first unbelievably delicious bite, I swore that I would only ever order Cote de Beouf at steakhouses. But then reality quickly intruded. At our income level, a steak at that price should only be for special occasions.
The sides were good. I think I was so blown away by the Cote de Boeuf that everything else paled in comparison. Except for the bacon. The duck fat potatoes were good but a bit too rich for me. The creamed spinach was also good but I've had better. But I came mainly for the steak and this place did not dissppoint. -

Lately I've been on a mission to hit every steakhouse in Manhattan, and based on last night's meal, I'd say the Strip House ranks highly.
My first impression even before I ordered was "Wow, they have some really attractive female employees." Doesn't affect the food obviously, but for those who like that sort of thing, it's a plus. The staff was very courteous and professional, btw.
The steak was even more impressive. I had a 12 oz filet medium rare, and it was cooked and seasoned impeccably. The char on the outside and the seasoning is what really set it apart (and what made it better than Keen's.) -
Review from Marcus C.
Relatively expensive, but still impressive.
Food: the bacon is to die for. TO DIE FOR. But then again, eat enough of it, and your heart will grant you that wish by stopping. Steaks were on the heavy taste side and portions were not very large for the amount charged.
Service: extremely attentive!
Decor: extremely dark with interesting wall decorations. -

New York, NYDELICIOUS STEAKS--ONE OF THE BEST I'VE HAD IN NYC
I went here recently for dinner and it was amazing. The steaks here are cooked to order and prepared with a slight char and seasoned with salt/pepper. This gives the steak a nice flavor and additional texture, which I thought was amazing. I ordered the bone-in ribeye cooked medium rare and it was fantastic. My girlfriend ordered the filet mignon and it was also very good.
For our side we ordered the creamed spinach which was great. The only thing I didn't really appreciate about our dinner here were the scallops that we ordered for appetizer. It tasted great, but thought it was a little pretentious especially for a steak house and a bit overpriced ($17 for 2 scallops).
The decor and service and space were great--no complaints there.
TIPS
- Bone-in ribeye and filet
- Creamed spinach
- Scallops are good, but a bit overpriced. Next time I go back I'll probably do the oysters or something
- Other steak houses I really like are Peter Lugers and BLT Prime -

Patchogue, NYWent to do some catching up with college pals. Yes, we've been "out" long enough to enjoy, and actually afford, a place like this! It's expensive but you get what you pay for. Recession be damned!
Decor was nice. Posh without being cheesy and evoked a sense of luxury, if not entitlement. You knew you would be well taken care of here.
Service was attentive but not obsequious. Napkins were refolded whenever you left your seat, which is always a nice touch.
Ordered Goose martinis, extra dry, extra dirty. Came perfectly made and poured from individually-sized shaker.
Had the dry-aged rib steak. Effen' DEELICIOUS! Nice char, perfectly done (ordered medium rare). I did have a couple of mouthfuls that would not break down no matter how well I masticated (that's "MASTICATED"!) so I think my exuberance got the better of me and I might have gotten a few pieces of fat that had been left on.
Creamed spinach, duck fat potato and creamed corn were very tasty. However, the killer for me was the roasted bacon! That's right. As if bacon wasn't good enough on it's own, this was roasted! Fatty, large, slabs crunchy and yielding at the same time. I could feel my arteries hardening with each, unctuous bite! Preemptively take a Lipitor or two before you go.
The desserts are where they seemed to fall a bit short. The chocolate cake was impressive to behold but a little dry and unremarkable. The cheesecake was a little better, slightly tart in an Italian style (as per my friend). Maybe try the brownie. Or skip dessert and save room for another martini.
Great experience. Looking forward to returning. -

Manhattan, NYExcellent steak, Great service, Good ambiance, OK drinks
Steak: Ordered the 20oz. bone-in ribeye, which was absolutely delicious. Well seasoned, cooked perfectly to order, and gigantic.
Service: Professional, friendly staff
Ambiance: Slightly older crowd, lively chatter, decor was a bit tacky
Drinks: Ordered the old-fashioned manhattan, which was a bit disappointing
Overall, great dining experience that I intend to repeat soon. -

Hewlett, NYI've been to the downtown Strip House location, but figured I should try the new midtown location as well. I would say midtown is definitely a better location for a steakhouse...a lot of business people in the area who can go there for business meetings and whatnot. But I digress.
We kept it pretty simple: filet mignon, sides (creamed corn, creamed spinach, and garlic fries). The filet was cooked perfectly and it was seasoned really well that I didn't even need a sauce to accompany it. Usually the potato (in any form) is my favorite side, but the spinach and corn were so delicious that the fries were on the backburner (but they were still really good). The corn had chunks of pancetta in it and a hint of chipotle (according to the waiter). The cream spinach was super truffley. How could you not like truffles?
Although we were warned about the size, we opted for the chocolate cake with a side of hazelnut ice cream. The cake was HUGE. It was enough for the 3 of us and leftovers for me for about 4 days. It's the type of exorbitant cake that should be served at a steakhouse.
Also-waiter was funny and personable. Always a plus! -

Bronx, NYVery disappointing dining experience starting with the butter (served with bread) that had no flavor. The bread was pretty tasteless as well. At Michael Jordan's both are so good that I usually take the bread AND the butter home in a doggy bag. Next came the caesar salad that was overpriced, overdressed and underwhelming. The waiter said that the specialness is in the croutons. Well guess what? I don't eat the croutons, should have asked for them to be omitted and why should a salad depend on its croutons for flavor? The dressing actually left a bad taste in my mouth. Next, the veal chop. First, I like to see what I'm eating. And the lights were so dim that it took away from the experience. Or maybe they didn't want me to see the over-peppering of the veal chop's reduction sauce. They explained that it's their "char" for which they are known. The "char" this place should be known for is "over CHARging".
Service great, wifi spotty (couldn't receive/send texts while there)...just can't recommend this place. -

I am going to rate this place 4.5 stars.
Came here on a saturday night expecting a packed house, but it was only about 50% full. The decor was nice and the staff did a good job welcoming us. Me and my lady ordered the following items:
Lobster Bisque 3 stars - good but not much lobster meat
Grilled Scallops 4.5 stars - grilled to perfection with nice sauce pairing, very flavorful
Bone in ribeye 4.5 stars - as good as it gets
Goose fat potatoes 4 stars - pretty unique side dish and crispy
Black truffle creamd spinich 5 stars - best thing all night! it was creamy with powerful truffle flavor!-
Bone in ribeye!

I'm ruined. The Cote de Boeuf is the best steak I've ever had. Ever. Other steaks just don't even sound interesting to me anymore. Ok, that's probably an overstatement. But seriously. Well worth the price if any $100 steak is ever worth the price. And the creamed corn with pancetta is still one of my top 3 steakhouse sides. And the service. And the seafood tower. And...I think you get it. I like this place.1 Previous Review: Show all »

New York, NYPretty good steakhouse overall. Really liked the atmosphere and many of the appetizers. I went for a company dinner and really liked the small hor devours (steak on bread with creamed spinach especially!).
For actual courses, I had the lobster bisque, which was was thick and poured right in front of you, which is always a nice touch. For the entree, I got the New York Strip steak, which was also good, but not great. It was a bit too dry for my liking. I ordered it medium rare, per usual, and it just wasn't rare enough, which is why I docked a star. The chocolate cake dessert was also really great.
Service was excellent as well.
Definitely a place I'd visit again to try a different piece of meat, maybe the bone-in-ribeye? -

Cross River, NYFirst time at this location. Been to the original 12th st locale before and enjoyed everything. That was a few years ago. This 44th st location maintains the original early 1900's bordello red light feel but the food was inconsistent.
My group of 3 shared an appetizer seafood tower which was quite good with multiple sauces, clams, shrimp, lobster, fresh crab, tuna/seaweed salad, all very nice and tasty.
However, my supposedly prime cut rib eye was VERY tough, overly and heavily seasoned with excessive peppers and couldn't be further from my expectation of a $50+ steak. At these prices, the meat should never be tough. The mushrooms side was decent and the asparagus was ok. In total, the main course was nothing to write Yelp well about and I left discontent. With so many superb steak options in my home city, it's not likely SH will regain my business. -

New York, NYI had a pretty bad experience at Striphouse in Midtown. I've been to the Striphouse on 12th st. several times and noticed the quality of service and food at that location had declined significantly since the BR Guest acquisition. Nonetheless I decided to give the Midtown location a shot based on some recommendations from friends. I wish I hadn't. Facts:
- When the amuse bouche* was delivered, the runner who brought it to the table simply stated "corn soup" and ran away. There was some kind of accent on the soup - chili oil perhaps - but it was never explained to us. Also, the soup was served chilled - a heads up on that would have been nice.
I acknowledge that it might sound picky to complain about an amuse bouche. But as we all know, the purpose is to demonstrate the approach or creativity of the chef. And importantly, it gives the diner a first impression of the establishment. In this case, that impression was dead on - the hurried approach communicated the "I don't give an f" attitude conveyed throughout the balance of the meal.
- Our first course of bacon came out room temperature.
- The restaurant was out of garlic bread. How does that happen? This is not a scarce resource, folks. This is 8pm on a Saturday.
- Most of the steaks were served luke warm. All of the sides were served luke warm. My guess is that our meal sat in the window for several minutes before being served.
- In addition to being served room temperature, three of the four steaks we ordered were overcooked. I repeat: this is a steakhouse, where we paid $50+ for individual cuts and $96 for a porterhouse for two; and 75% of the steaks were overcooked.
We decided to send a porterhouse back. A manager came by and said they would cook a new one, so we ordered the second steak rare to stay on the safe side. However, roughly five minutes after taking away our overcooked steak, the same manager returned to our table - with the original steak we sent back! He said that the kitchen was busy and that as a result, it would take 25 minutes for a new porterhouse. So we had two options: (1) eat the overcooked steak which was by now cold, or (2) wait a half hour for the $96 porterhouse as we originally ordered it. This was insulting - we know that it takes 6-7 minutes to refire that steak.
- Our server seemed genuinely surprised by the kitchen and manager's reaction to the porterhouse debacle, and tried to make it right. He offered us desserts on the house - but at that point we were done and just asked for the check. Nonetheless he gave us two slices of cheesecake to take home - though nobody really wanted them. At our request he took the medium porterhouse off the bill.
So overall, Striphouse failed. The service failed, the kitchen failed, and our experience was very disappointing. There are several excellent steakhouses a stone's throw from this place. As we were leaving the restaurant, I launched my Opentable app and promptly canceled an upcoming business dinner for Striphouse in Midtown West; I booked DelFrisco's instead. No reason to waste our money here again. -

Manhattan, NYI went for a birthday, and made the reservation though Yelp!
The decor was great, dark reds, pin up girl photos.
The service was exceptional, the waiter was friendly, the food was served hot, he had suggestions for the wine which made sense and we appreciated it all.
Ordered the porterhouse for 2, medium rare, and it was good. Pretty good even!
I'm a fan of Peter Luger's and this was not on that level.
The goose fat potatoes were awesome, but I imagined more flavor would be there than actually was.
Had 6 east coast oysters each to start, and they were clean, fresh, briny and exceptional.
Also got an amuse bouche, which was a nice touch.
It was $270 for 2, with the wine.
I'd go again, however, Luger's meat is still superior. -

Beverly Hills, CAOh my goodness! I came to this restaurant last winter in December, and since I am a relatively new Yelper, I had to write this review. My family and I ordered two appetizers which were delicious, and the chef personally made some soup for us on the house , a party of three. I ordered a 30 plus day aged porterhouse steak and it was delicious. Perfectly marinated, excellent flavoring, and intense seasonings. Our sides of mash potatoes and asparagus were excellently cooked and delicious as well. The waiter was extremely friendly and I loved the dark intimate lighting throughout the restaurant. I will definitly come here again next time I visit New York City! -

If you're looking for a solid steakhouse, you might want to consider going here as their steaks will seriously melt in your mouth!
Not only did their steak taste delicious but their decor was very seductive and chic, while their attention to service was definitely on queue.
Although the space and seating are tightly knitted, more so then I would have liked, the restaurant was buzzing and loud when we came here on a Thursday night. Dimly lit, their walls was covered in velvet red wall fabric, with a nice backdrop of burlesque photos that hung on the wall.
I ended up ordering their classic NY Strip with bone ($54), medium rare and my-oh-my did it taste luscious and ooozing with deliciousness. The crust was nicely formed while the beef was tender and rich. The roasted garlic that came with my steak also added a nice touch as it added a bit of complexity to my steak. I also ordered their side of Black Truffle Creamed Spinach ($12) and it was aromatic and buttery. Best of all, it complimented nicely with my steak, while still holding it's own weight in taste.
At the end of of the meal, my friend and I decided to take the rest home and instead of giving us our doggie bag at our the table, they just gave us a number so we can pick it up at the coat check for our convenience. How wonderful was that!!!! -

The Strip, Las Vegas, NVWas not expecting such a good steak. The rib eye was excellent and would definitely return. The rub was salty, tender and flavorful. Great service.
Reservation at 7:00 and sat down at 7:00. That's rare these days.. -

Nutley, NJHad a business dinner here. Veal chop and Bibb lettuce salad. Delicious all the way around. Well prepared, attentive service. My companion had rib eye and creamed corn. It looked good. Chocolate cake for dessert- huge piece. Typical steak house ala carte pricing. Solid mid-town choice. -
