HUGE line of people going all the way down the block had formed in midafternoon by the time I left
Apparently still in previews-- was a hit in London
Actually, Yelp turned out to be the best source of information
Raves are for the theater itself, --just a couple of mentions here of the new productions, --I left in some reviews for the old show "End of the Rainbow" they just had here because they also say what a great theater is
Look at it this way, even if it doesn't get raves when it officially opens (which I bet it does), I am sure the Shakespeare plays will be big crowd pleasers and are in, as people keep saying, one of Bway's best theaters

Arlington, VAMatinee of Richard III was excellent! Mark Rylance's performance was wonderful, beginning with a somewhat comedic take but devolving into tragedy. The set was traditional and very well done, as were the costumes. Music was perfect for the show.
Evening performance of Twelfth Night was even better. Great cast. Great production. Amazing how Rylance can go from Richard in the afternoon to Olivia that same night. Seeing Stephen Fry on stage as Malvolio was fun.
Both shows are not to be missed. -

End of the Rainbow, a tale about the most fabulous Judy Garland was the perfect pick for my first ever Broadway show. How did she (Tracie Bennett), not win the Tony for this performance is beside me.
Ever since I was little I loved Judy Garland. I would watch Meet Me in St. Louis followed by The Pirate every time I went to my grandmas. So when my (best friend), and fellow Joots lover, told me this was playing, he quickly bought us tickets for when he was in town.
The Belasco is what I imagine to be on the smaller scale of theaters. Personally, smaller are more my cup of tea. We arrived and entry was easy peasy. We were pointed in the direction of our seats on every level.
Top level was were we were and I've got to say the view was great. Our seats were what the ushers like to call "VIP seats" as they are two seats all alone. The show was not full at all, god knows why, I swear people are missing out. We asked if we could go down a level but we were told that we had to stay in our ticketed section but we could sit in any open seat. I highly discourage sitting in the front row as the bar is really in the way. We moved around to second and third rows but in the end, our original seats had the best view.
The show itself was fantastic. At times I closed my eyes and if I didn't know any better I could have sworn I was listening to Joots herself. Amazing. I got choked up and teary eyed a few times as my love for Judy Garland is very sentimental.
But besides the shows greatness itself, i thought the sound was great and i really did love the intimacy of this small theater. Seats were comfy and there was enough leg room for leg crossing.
Tempted to see the show again but if not this one, I'll definitely keep an eye out for shows playing at the Belasco. -

One of the most beautiful theatres to enjoy the broadway performance. This theatre is the masterpiece of architect George Keister. The interior hosts tiffany lighting, ceiling panels with rich woodwork and expansive murals which makes it one of the most beautiful theatres. Specially the ceiling was really a piece of art. The recent renovation of this theatre done by the Shubert Organization costed millions of dollars.
I recently came here to see the show 'End Of the Rainbow' and I am happy this show was hosted at this theatre. One can definitely not miss the lamps and colourfull glass which adds to the decor of the place. Surprisingly this was one theatre where my legs were comfortable and I did not feel cramped. The sound system within the theatre was very good and the live orchestra enticed us all during the show. The mens restrooms though are very small and cramped. -

Absolutely beautiful theater to see a performance in. I was there for a musical a bunch of years ago before the renovations and now it can truly be seen in all it's historic glory. It just looks amazing and hard to believe it is also over 100 years old.
We were recently there to see "End Of The Rainbow" and I just could not stop marveling at the stained glass on the ceiling and attention to detail on the walls and architecture. Gorgeous stained glass, lamps, and even the seating was nice and cushy with ok leg room. We were in the first row of the lower mezzanine and had a perfect view of the stage. The box seats to our right were covered in so much detail and everything here is very ornate. The sound and acoustics are also very clear. It was definitely renovated to it's past greatness.
Bathrooms were ok and good enough for a quick visit during intermission. As with all these old theaters the bathrooms are on the small side and could use a few extra stalls and urinals, but that is a minor point. The staff here was ok and performed their duties, so not much I can comment on here.
If ever seeing a show at the Belasco be sure to take a seat early to look around and be prepared to be awestruck. You just can't stop staring at everything, including the ceiling. -

New York, NYThe Belasco Theatre is beautiful. Possibly the most beautiful of all the Broadway theatres. I kept staring in awe at the gorgeous stained glass on the ceiling, the lovely painted murals on the walls, and the interesting architecture.
The seating is quite comfortable compared to many other Broadway theaters. There are three levels: the orchestra, mezzanine, and the balcony. I sat in the 2nd row of the front mezzanine and had an excellent view of the stage. I was afraid that the very tall men sitting in front of me would block my view, but the stadium style seating prevented it. The acoustics were also good and clear. I took a look at the Orchestra seating, and it looked like you could get a good view from any seat of the fairly small Orchestra seating area.
There is a ladies restroom right when you walk out of the Mezzanine seating area. Surprisingly, there was not a line after the show. The restroom stalls were relatively spacious and clean.
The Belasco is definitely one of the best theatres to see a show in. ("End of the Rainbow" is playing there now, and I highly recommend it.) -

#1 I am not going to talk about the staff because if I did, it would result in a MUCH lower rating so let's leave that part of the beautiful Belasco Theatre out.
Anyways, with that said...THE THEATRE IS GORGEOUS. The lamps, the ceiling everywhere I look the stained glass is so GORGEOUS. I found myself looking up a lot before the show started. I was admiring the details of the theatre. I was saying to my boyfriend...Wow, i think this is the most gorgeous theatre I have seen.
If you are seated in the Mezzanine you can even see the gorgeous detailing even better.
I was even looking at the walls along the sides. I was in awe of the detailing along the box seats and if you look above that...there was just a section of stained glass that I was staring at for a while.
GORGEOUS!
Bathrooms were adequate. The largest bathroom I saw was at the Longacre. The Belasco and every Broadway show theatre, it seems, needs more stalls in the women's restrooms. It always seems to be built as an afterthought. -

The inside of this theater is magnificent!
The restored wooden ceilings with the stained glass lighting panels are gorgeous.
I attended End Of The Rainbow at this theater and was very impressed by the inside.
Some negatives- The seats are a little cramp and the Men's Restroom is all the way on the top floor. -

Portland, ORThe renovated Belasco Theatre seems to be one of few old buildings in Times Square that hasn't had a tower built on top of it. Since hosting the original Rocky Horror Picture Show and the Oh Calcutta! nude review in the seventies, the Belasco has adjusted to our more sedate times in style.
The only ding I would give it would be for the rude staff. After being seated by an usher, another usher came along and sharply told us, "You have to move!". The ticket taker couldn't pause in her personal conversation with another employee for a second to welcome the attendees (these are over $100 tickets), the $15 drink was weak, but not from ice, because it only had two pieces.
Other than that, a lovely venue.
