Kalvig and Shorter- New Vets in Midtown East

SO FAR, nothing but excellent reviews for this new place but there are not very many of them

They don't seem to go into it much, but I get the distinct impression K&S are NOT inexpensive

Several years ago I moved from Manhattan for a few years and had taken my dear cat
to at least 6 Vets for an illness that not one Vet could not fully take care of.
I then moved back to the Upper East Side and looked for a new vet.
I found Dr. Kalvig and she treated my care with care and totally cured my cat of a
simple illness that she said was easily treated. Right then I knew I found a great
Vet and my dear cat lived for 15 years.
Well my life experience has taught me when you find a talented, caring professional
    be thankful .
I have been a client of Kalvig and Shorter Associates for well over 15 years.
All my pets have had the very best care with Dr. Kalvig, Dr. Shorter and their
    great staff.

They are amazing, the best.  Every pet owner should feel extremely comfortable bringing their loved ones to these wonderful doctors.  The care and compassion they demonstrate is truly above and beyond any veterinary group I have seen before.  Thank you again for everything you do for so many.

Kalvig & Shorter is best of breed. My 10 year old lab is a new patient here, and I am amazed by their gift of impeccable veterinary service. Pre and post operative attention to detail, thorough reviews of medical history, compassionate, experienced and professional staff and that small town feeling that you are the only customer that matters in a clean and stress-free welcoming space are just a few of the things you will encounter at Kalvig & Shorter.

I am one of the worst members of the Yelp community.  I troll the reviews all the time but never post anything or even click the "was this review helpful" button.  So for me to post a review, you know I must feel strongly about the place, and I can't say enough good things about Dr. Kalvig and the entire staff at Kalvig and Shorter.  I think the most important quality in a vet is someone who truly loves animals and wants to help them; someone who doesn't view their job as a job but rather as a calling.  I can definitely see that in Dr. Kalvig and know that she genuinely cares about my little guy.  I don't have any extraordinary stories like some of the other commentators do, it's just that feeling you get when you know you've found the right person.  I can't say enough good things about the doctors and staff here and highly recommend them!

I've found that there are very few things in life capable of creating the up-swelling of emotions that occurs if you're unfortunate enough to witness your beloved pet & companion in agony.  However, when you're directly responsible for causing a life threatening event, the hurt runs even deeper.  I know this to be the case because I spent 4 hours in the animal hospital's ER unit on Monday night waiting to find out whether my prescription medication that Sasha ingested as a result of my carelessness would take her life.  I found out on Tuesday morning that my 8 year old kitty defied the odds and made it through the night.  Her condition is gradually improving, and she'll be ready to come home this morning.
The care Sasha has received over the years from Kalvig and Shorter Veterinary Associates has EXCEEDED ALL EXPECTATIONS.  When your veterinarian, in this case Dr. Kalvig, is on the phone late at night with her staff coordinating a strategy aimed at saving your pet's life, including having one of her nurses arrive at your residence within 10 minutes to safely and successfully place a terrified & thus extremely aggressive Sasha in her carrying case, while one one of her dedicated technicians has already received a full debriefing from the Animal Poison Control Center & immediately alerted the animal hospital's ER of Sasha's condition & to be prepared for her arrival, it's simply overwhelming.
Today happens to be my birthday, and thanks to the genuine care and concern exhibited by Kalvig & Shorter Veterinary Associates, the guilt and anguish that I would have experienced has been replaced by a sense of elation and gratitude. In a few hours from now, I'll be receiving the best present imaginable - having Sasha home with me and well on her way to a full recovery.

Dear Dr. Kalvig, Dr. Shorter & team, I can't thank you enough for everything you have done to provide the very best of care for Sasha over the years.  I wish you the best of luck in your new location, & am very much looking forward to thanking you in person :)
