Yes Impress is expensive, but god damn are they convenient.  I love the entertaining drunks that stumble in on the weekends & I love having Ginger Ale & Advil sent up to me after a hard night out.

Side Note:  Your really have no business here if you don't live in The RIvergate or work at NYU med.

I live above this deli, and while I've been a patron for quick items like milk or coffee, I never really LIKE going here, as I always get the feeling the food is about 3 hours away from spoiling.

Well today was the last time I will ever set foot in there, no matter how desperate I am for food. I needed a banana, or an orange juice before my morning run, and I went to the OJ section and found a small OJ in the fridge, but before I bought it, I went and took a look at the bananas.

There were two bunches of bananas on the shelf, both were COVERED IN BUGS. Literally crawling all over every banana, yet they remained on the shelf for sale. I was so grossed out I almost hurled on the spot. (ok, so maybe I have a weak stomach)

I went up to the counter where there is usually single bananas for sale hoping for something better, and the same thing! Bugs, EVERYWHERE. Flying around, crawling on the fruit.

This makes me wonder. If this standard is ok for their fruit, what is their standard for all the deli meats and cheeses behind the scenes. I will NEVER buy anything from this place again, and I'm tempted to call the board of health on them, because I think they need a wake up call. They are getting complacent because of their captive market on the Rivergate building, and probably lots of drunk people buying food at 2 AM.

For me, I'll just walk the 150 yards up 34th street to the Midtown Deli. Much better, and lower prices, plus friendlier staff.

The Impress is a pretty good deli all around--very clean, decent enough prepared food and good selection of the other items.  The best part is that they deliver and have basically no delivery minimum.  When I had the flu last yr, they were great about delivering bottled water and other stuff to me since I had no energy to leave my apartment.

If you live in Rivergate OR the surrounding area, this place is top notch. Extensive deli here that even has some ok produce and groceries. Tons of pasta salads, sandwiches, paninis, and prepared foods.

24 Hour delivery and if you're in the building, they'll bring you anything - they brought my friend a single shot of espresso before he went out. They'll bring you condoms at 4am. Whatever you need.

Boars Head meats mean great sammys at any time, who can beat that? And they'll bring you beer whenever you need it at a not so absurd price.

Obviously, the high rating has to do with the convenience factor and the service - if you don't live in the area and can benefit from delivery, it's just a standard if not slightly better deli. But its just so convenient, I use it every day.

the good: it's open 24 hours and doesn't judge a girl for coming in looking haggard from too much alcohol at 4am.

the bad: they will kick you out of their little outside seating area for not being a "patron that bought something from us today"
oh-and their deli food isn't anything worth bragging about, but http://eh.it will work in a crunch, or if you feel really really lazy-oooor, you are just too drunk to tell the difference but have it in your head that putting something in your stomach before going to sleep WILL SOOOO help you not have a hangover the next day

stop, this place is not good and the people that work there are insane/mean. they charge ridiculous prices because they have so much overhead for keeping the store open 24 hours...think about that. i have had very stale bagels there and they take a long time to prepare their food. the only thing they are good for is that the store is so close to the rivergate. and i have to admit i have been so l lazy/hungover that i have had them deliver gatorade and a breakfast sandwich to my apt.

The food is great, I particularly like their roast beef sandwich with horseradish.  Prices for food aren't too bad, however prices for things like beer can be pretty absurd, I think they got me for like $15 for a 6-pack once.
