Pershing Square-- I just like the look of the place!

Under the Park Avenue roadway on 42nd Street, this Pershing Square place is always mobbed and looks so relentlessly cheerful to me that I decided to get some reviews on it.

Not the heights of fine dining, I am sure, but great ambiance..well, as I suspected, this is not some place you go to for the food... here are just some Yelp reviews--

Again, I noticed that the most recent reviews were the best ones

They have a great location near Grand Central Station tucked under Park Avenue

This is a great place for breakfast and it is no surprise its a very busy bistro

    Service is fast and brisk

We had Eggs Benedict and Pancakes and they were both delicious

I am not a bog fan of restaurant brewed coffee but it was reasonable. I am a bold Starbucks guy so may be kind of picky

We chose this spot based on its location and heritage

If the weather is good it would be great to sit outside on their patio. Great spot to people watch

I went with a friend who lives not too far from this neighborhood. I wasn't really expecting much, so I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be better than I'd expected. We went for dinner and got seated right away. This was over a holiday weekend so I'm sure that had something to do with it. it was pretty quiet in there actually.

I had the chicken pot pie, which was delicious. I've been trying not to eat too much (and I wasn't starving that night), so I had my leftovers wrapped up, and it tasted delicious when warmed up the next day too. My friend had the hangar steak salad, which looked good. She also got a slice of coconut cream pie, which she shared with me (yum). I had a pot of herbal tea (the cinnamon one). You get quite a few cups out of this, so be prepared to use the bathroom again before your subway commute home.  ;-)

All in all, it was a nice meal and our server was very sweet and did a good job.

I love Pershing Square (PS). They do some things very well like the shrimpcargo ( shrimp in an escargot try served with breading, butter and herbs). They also have an excellent Tuna nicoise and the burgers bring you to a Parisian brasserie.  Its the business persons go to place for business breakfast but reservations are a must otherwise you will be relegated to purgatory in the form of a very long line.

The staff are a hit/miss proposition. Some a great while others are clueless perhaps thinking about what went wrong at the last audition rather than serving the patron. IN spring through fall they close the side street and have European-esque outdoor seating!

I've been told this place has the best pancakes in town.  I'm not sure if I'd agree but I did swallow my stack almost whole and then do my best to clear the plate of any residual crumbs.  Of course, I do the same at Denny's.  So, there's that.

The line was out the door on a recent Saturday, around 11am.  I'm not sure if this place accepts reservations but we didn't have any for our party of four.  Despite what appeared to be at least a 45 minute wait, the line moved really very quickly and we were seated probably within 15 minutes.  Of course, the size of the line did deter a number of patrons, so they should probably work on that.  Maybe placing a greeter at the door or something?

The dining room is good sized and there appeared to be outdoor seating available for the lunch crowd.  The staff, though, seemed very assembly line and didn't much appreciate our lingering over coffee after our meal was through.  They even took our paper table cloth away.  I thought that was a bit gauche.

Regardless of the assembly line service, our food was good and fast and we were seated quickly.  I see no reason why I wouldn't come back again.
