Council Member Mark Levine

Lawrence --

Earlier this week I invited you to join myself and the broad coalition of leaders and organizations that have coalesced around the movement to expand representation in housing court, and help us make New York City the first jurisdiction in America to take such historic action.

Just today, the New York Times Editorial Board recognized the importance of what we are trying to accomplish. The powerful editorial noted that “there are few legal fights more lopsided than landlords suing to evict their lower-income tenants,” and “ensuring that the most vulnerable don’t lose their homes is both the just and fiscally smart thing to do." I couldn’t agree more with those sentiments.

Former New York State Chief Judge Lippman, NYC Comptroller Stringer, NYC Public Advocate  James, Borough Presidents Brewer, Diaz and Adams, and dozens of city and state elected officials and advocacy groups have already signed up to show their support for the bill.   Be part of this historic movement. RSVP to the hearing and press conference Monday, September 26th at 9:30am here and sign up at our Facebook event page here.

I hope to see you there.

Best,

MarkÂ
