Bloodbath at Maalbeek metro station 22/03/2016 • Update 11:09 An explosion has occurred at the Maalbeek metro station on the Wetstraat in Brussels. It's unclear how many people have been injured and whether or not there are fatalities. Photos on Twitter show people leaving the metro station with bloody faces. Smoke is also coming out of the station.

IS claims responsibility for Brussels attacks 22/03/2016 • 16:40 The terrorist organisation IS has claimed responsibility for the Brussels attacks. The news comes from IS's official press office. In a statement IS speaks of several suicide attackers who carried out several bomb attacks using explosive belts and bombs.
Lock-down in Brussels 22/03/2016 • Update 15:46 Belgium's Security Council has met to consider the situation following the terrorist attacks on Brussels Airport and the metro stations. Brussels rail stations were closed and people have been asked to stay indoors, but rail services are now resuming at 4PM.

"Attack on our humanist values" 22/03/2016 • 14:30 The Mayor of Brussels Yvan Mayeur has labelled the terrorist attacks on Brussels Airport and the Maalbeek metro station "an unprecedented murderous violence". Mr Mayeur called on all Belgians to show their solidarity for their capital.
