WPIX= Firefighter Scaffold Rescue and Other Stories

FDNY rescue four workers ‘dangling’ off collapsed scaffold

INWOOD, Manhattan — FDNY shared photos of a dramatic rescue of workers hanging from a collapsed scaffold.
In a Facebook post by the FDNY, the four workers were “dangling” off a partially collapsed scaffold.
A cable used to secure the scaffolding was tied to the parapet of the building  and had given way, causing the middle of the scaffold to collapse.
Luckily, all the workers were wearing harnesses but needed the FDNY’s help getting down.
FDNY Lt. Bill Caffrey of Ladder Company 36 along with Greg Richards, Robert Cruz, Otniel Calderon, William McNally and Eric Plesniarski helped the rescue operation go smoothly.
Lt. Caffrey said they removed a worker with an aerial ladder, helped two through the windows from the inside of the building, and the fourth worker was brought up to the roof using a rope. He says they then tied off the scaffolding to secure it.
“It’s great because it all went smoothly,” Caffrey said in the post. “We were able to get them from a pretty bad situation to a good one very quickly. Each member did their job and we had them all secured in about ten minutes.”
