Society is aging but better educated and less wasteful

Czech society is getting older. The average age in the Czech Republic was nearly 40.8 years in 2014, while in 1995 it was estimated as only 36 years.
And the Czech republic is not alone.
The oldest population within the EU is Germany, with the average age of approxmately 46 years.
Furthermore, according to the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ), Germans are aging faster than the Czechs.
The number of people with only a primarily education in the Czech Republic is gradually decreasing. It constitutes just 8.4 percent,a very low rate compared with 61.6 percent in Portugal, 48 percent in Spain and 45.8 percent in Italy.
“At least, 91.6 percent of the population in the Czech Republichas secondary education, which is the highest rate among the EU countries. But in comparison with other European countries, we have few college students — only 19.9 percent. In contrast, for example, in Luxembourg it is 43.1 percent of the population,” says ČSÚdirector Iva Ritschelová.
The Czech Republic also has relatively high economic activity among the population, which is 73.5 percent in a category of people aged 15–64. Higher rates had been recorded in the Scandinavian countries, especially Sweden with 81.5 percent and the Netherlands with 79 percent.
The high rates of economic activity among women contribute essentially to the statistic. On the contrary, Italy shows the lowest level of economic activity, which is just 63.9 percent.
The rate of unemployment in the Czech Republic was just 6.1 percent in 2014. This is one of the lowest rates among the EU countries.  Low rates are also seen in neighboring countries: Austria at 5.6 percent and Germany with the lowest, 5.0 percent. The highest unemployment rate in the EU reported in Greece, at 26.5 percent, and Spain, at 24.5 percent.
The Czech Republic also has reduced the carbon dioxide emissions. According to Eurostat, this rate decreased from 14.5 tons per capita in 1990 to 9.6 tons in 2013.
Currently, the Czech Republic is on the 36th place in CO2  production in the world.
The comparison also shows that the Czech Republic has a good position in the area of municipal waste. In 2013,  307 kg municipal waste per capita had been produced, while for example  in Luxembourg the same index showed 653 kg. The least waste per capita was produced in Romania with only 272 kg per capita.
