Another brand new, shiny fire station began operating today, this time at Leytonstone in east London.
Finally #NationalToastDay is here. Widespread celebration across the land. It also gives us another chance to warn any fool hardy person who might be thinking of turning their toaster on it's side to cook cheese on toast. It really isn't a very clever idea bit.ly/1T8cMql
This time next week Europe's largest ever disaster training exercise will be fully underway.
The scenario will be based on a significant building collapse, incorporating heavy transport and mass casualties.

As part of our 150th anniversary celebrations, RAFT will be hosting a charity gala dinner at The Mansion House on 1st November.
All profits from the event will be shared between the Brigade’s chosen charities which are RAFT, Children’s Burns Trust, Burns Camp, Children of Fire and The Firefighters Charity.
Attendees will include a royal guest of honour and prominent business people from the City of London.

Happy retirement to firefighter Graham Cowper who left the Brigade this week after 30 years service.
Councillor Daryl Brown, Deputy Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham, presented Graham with a plaque to express thanks for his service to the local community.
Graham served his entire career at Fulham on the white watch, who say it won’t be the same without him.

Operator, a film about a 999 call to the London Fire Brigade won best BAFTA short film last week. The five-minute film follows a call from a desperate mum who is trapped in a bedroom with her three-year old son during a fire.

The Mayor of Bromley officially opened the brand new Orpington fire station yesterday. The state of the art building replaces the former station which was built at the same site in 1958.
While the station was being built, one crew and their engine worked from a temporary station which was built at the rear of the new station, whilst the other crew and fire engines were hosted at Beckenham fire station.
As well as improved training areas and extra space for the fire engines, there is also an extra office, lecture and quiet study rooms and a kitchen and dining area for firefighters. The station’s design meets the highest environmental standards and uses solar panels to provide energy for the building alongside other green technology.
