We're backing an urgent appeal, ‪#‎Match4Tommy‬, for more mixed race blood stem cell donors as the young son of one of our firefighters battles leukaemia.
Tommy Simpson, 4, is of White (British) and Black (Caribbean) heritage who loves nothing more than playing with his toy aeroplanes and putting on his Dad's uniform, pretending to be a firefighter.
This January he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML), after being admitted to hospital a few days before Christmas...

From today we will be teaming up with London Ambulance Service to respond to emergencies in four of the capital's boroughs. The trial in Merton, Newham, Wandsworth and Lambeth will see our firefighters respond alongside paramedics to patients whose condition is immediately life threatening due to cardiac or respiratory arrest. Tania Da Silva-Jones All this is going to do is stretch the fire brigade even more - personally I want them to do what they are trained to do - PUT OUT FIRES - they are not paramedics! This is just another way the government is trying to save money by not putting more fund...See More

Tania Da Silva-Jones Ryan Allen-Jones first of all - the fire bridge are not medically trained, and they are being offered no additional training, so I think the general public (myself included as I am not a firefighter) wouldn't actually want someone untrained to be deali...See More

Nicholas Jones This is a amazing idea. Myself who works for the emergency services this is a way to ensure more people's life's will be saved with the average waiting time for a ambulance in London at the 2 to 3 hours mark. My only concern is that they get send to c...See More

David Santamaría The trouble with these alarms is that they sound a high-pitched beep. My father-in-law, in his mid 80s, had a smoke alarm in his home. I tested it. It worked a treat, but sadly he did not hear it. He is deaf in the top end of his hearing range. He...See More

Kay Pilkington Fantastic, it makes me feel really good to know that all our agencies across the board are working as one.
Luke Hillman Are voluntary aid guys and girls involved/invited? Given we would be part of the planned response, assume we would be??
Crews at Soho fire station received a special blessing as part of Chinese New Year celebrations this week.
The traditional custom of ‘cai qing' meaning 'plucking the green' sees the lion approach and take 'the green' (vegetable), chew it up and then spit it out. Check out some pictures from the blessing below.

Joel Isbell Christ I pay my tax, if firefighters and stations are so abundant that they're literally sitting around doing bugger all but are ready to deal with any sized emergency then so be it, it's not wasting money it's preemptive spending. Same goes for the doctors and nurses give people what they deserve rather than trying to force privatisation.

It'll be G4S Fire Dept soon....See More

As part of our 150th anniversary we’re looking back at some of the major incidents we’ve attended since we were formed back in 1866.
Eight years ago yesterday, a huge fire broke out at London’s iconic Camden Market. Twenty fire engines and 100 firefighters tackled the blaze, which ravaged the wooden stalls at the Market.
Crews worked relentlessly through the night to bring the fire under control, tackling the fire from all sides.
