Lawrence -- This weekend there is potential for a significant winter storm beginning Saturday morning into Sunday evening. In New York City and Long Island the forecast for snowfall totals is 6 to 12 inches bringing potentially blizzard conditions to our region. The National Weather Service continues to monitor the situation, and I encourage you to avoid all non-essential travel. I also encourage you to take this opportunity to check in with your loved ones, neighbors and the elderly in your community. Training classes are beginning soon, so don’t miss the opportunity for a great job this coming summer! First-year lifeguards earn a minimum of $13.57 an hour, working 48 hours each week for a weekly salary of over $650.00. There is no need for an appointment; just be sure to bring a bathing suit, towel and lock for a locker. HOPE Counts The NYC Department of Homeless Services’ (DHS) annual street homeless count, HOPE 2016, will take place on Monday, January 25th, from 10 pm to 4 am. DHS must conduct a point-in-time estimate of the homeless population within the final ten days of January.  By conducting a count during the coldest time of the year, DHS is able to produce an estimate of the most vulnerable portion of the unsheltered homeless population who are either unwilling or unable to access emergency shelter.  To ensure success, DHS needs approximately 3,000 volunteers to help survey the number of homeless individuals living on city streets and in parks and other public spaces throughout New York City.
