Wonder why everyone is asked to do their part and shovel your neighborhood fire hydrant? Skip this video to 9:45 and you will see numerous FDNY firefighters, full gear with mask... shoveling out a hydrant. Not only do they have to perform firefighting duties to try to confine and extinguish a fire to minimalize damage of someone's important belongings, but they have to shovel the hydrants out. In a fire, seconds count. It is a good thing at this fire, no one was trapped by flames. This could have easily been life or death. Don't think your above shoveling out a hydrant, because if it's your house that catches fire, you may be 6 feet below everyone in the end. I hate to put it like that but it's true.

We are saddened to learn of the death of 5 year old Amanda. Amanda is one of our FDNY family, she is the niece of Kevin Kuck. An aggressive brain tumor has taken Mandy from us before she could even live her life, and today our hearts are broken with our brother and his family.
