NYC Fire Museum Presents Play, "The Guys"

The Guys to Honor FDNY Anniversary, Fr. Judge, Leavey Foundation

The play is a tribute to the firefighters who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks.

The Guys, a play by Anne Nelson, will have its first ever performance at the NYC Fire Museum on Saturday, February 20, and will honor the 150th Anniversary of the New York Fire Department, Father Mychal Judge, OFM, the first certified fatality in the September 11, 2001 attacks and the Lt. Joseph G. Leavey Foundation. The play will begin at 7:30pm at the museum for this one-time performance.

The Guys is based on a true story about the aftereffects of the collapse of the World Trade Center. The play is set less than two weeks after the events of September 11, 2001 and explores the relationship between a writer and a fire captain who has lost most of his men from the attacks.

Hannah Ryan, the associate director of the 2015 Tony Award-winning play The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, will direct, with Renee Claire Bergeron (2012 New York Innovative Theatre Award Winner – Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role, A Man of No Importance, The Gallery Players; Mother's Day, FringeNYC 2014; Whistle Down The Wind, National Tour) as Joan and William Mulligan (My Fair Lady, Cape Playhouse; Cohen/Powers Fellow, Tanglewood Music Center; Petunia, FringeNYC 2014), as Captain Nick Flanagan.
The play is also being produced to benefit the Lt. Joseph G. Leavey Foundation. Performances are given in memory of Lt. Joseph G. Leavey who lead his unit to the 78th floor of Tower Two of the World Trade Center, where they were the only complete unit to begin operations on a fire floor.

The Guys premiered in December 2001 at the Flea Theater in New York City and originally starred Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver. The play has been adapted for film (also starring Sigourney Weaver), as an audio book, having been performed in all fifty states, as well as internationally in the Czech Republic, Argentina, Japan, Italy and Poland.
