WTC Transportation Hub Oculus To Open In March

After over 10 years and about $4 billion, the World Trade Center Transportation Hub's Santiago Calatrava-designed Oculus is set to open in early March, Politico New York reported. The structure has been plagued by cost overruns, the price having just about doubled. The official World Trade Center website says it will deliver "unmatched mass transit," connecting 11 subway lines (A, C, E, J, Z, R, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5), the PATH system, several MTA bus routes, ferry service, and parking garages.
The report said that the new hub will serve 200,000 passengers, about a third of the 600,000 currently served by Penn Station. The temporary World Trade Center PATH station serves 44,000.
Cost overruns and other delays have not been easy on Calatrava. "I have been treated like a dog," he told the Wall Street Journal.
Not date was cited for the mall's opening, but it has been plagued by leaks. The new Eataly outpost, however, will open in the spring.

Looks kinda like a zipper made of baguette diamonds.
Intentionally delayed and constructed shotty to skim more money from build cost.
" I have been treated like a dog "..yes, but a very very rich dog.
@Monath: He actually probably only made $5 or $10 million total off the design, he didn't have any hands in the construction as far as I know.
Also, I don't care what the haters say. I think this building is incredible. Probably the most beautiful modern transportation hub in the world imo.
Was it expensive and over budget? Yes. But government project excess goes to waste in far more idiotic ways (bridge to nowhere in Alaska, etc.) than a transportation hub in the biggest city in the United States.
It is the norm, and considered an accomplishment in liberal circles to steal money from the govt. Since the govt has no money you are really stealing from others and from children(debt), That too is considered an accomplishment in today's liberal world. Very sad but nothing out of the ordinary today. Greed run wild, nothing new,
@Pismo Donzi:
don't delude yourself...the conservatives do their fair share of stealing as well ;^(
I understand it will also include the base for the space elevator to the platform in low Earth orbit. The hardest part was building the thousand mile high elevator filament from Buckyballs...
