Planetary science drew the most attention in 2015, and for good reason.
Mysterious bright spots on the largest asteroid in our solar system puzzled scientists. The spacecraft following a comet as it hurtled toward and then retreated from the Sun continued to make surprising discoveries. And, of course, the year saw the history-making and expectation-shattering observations of Pluto.
But discoveries about celestial objects beyond the solar system deserve attention, too.
The center of the Milky Way Galaxy harbors a mysterious glow from dead stars or something even stranger, while astronomy’s most studied stellar explosion is changing before our eyes.
Each year, Astronomy ranks the top 10 astronomical discoveries and space stories. And now we want to know which ones mattered most to you in 2015.
