It is with much sadness and regret to inform the Brotherhood of the unfortunate passing of a well-loved and very respected man.
Blount County Fire Protection District in Tennessee lost Fire Captain Jim Patty on the night of October 29th, 2015.
Capt Patty had recently been ill, and sadly took a turn for the worst. The community he served had a train derailment that was carrying some bad chemicals.

Tonight is "Devil's Night"... a name associated with October 30, the night before Halloween.
It is related to the "Mischief night" practiced in other parts of the United States and the world, but is chiefly associated with the serious vandalism and arson seen in Detroit, Michigan from since the 1970's.
Recent neighborhood patrols and citizen watches has deterred much of would-be arsonist behaviors... but make no mistake... our Brothers and Sisters on watch tonight need to be...

Also very appropriate and applies to "Firefighter Husbands"

Depression and suicide happens more often in the fire service than is reported
In August 2015, Katy, TX firefighter and veteran Jason Anderson killed himself while on duty in the fire station where he worked.
Though Jason Anderson never talked about it, Susan Anderson said she feels her son suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after his time in the military and as a firefighter.

!['For some... it's a year-round gig.
Here, a photo from a prescribed burning project on Sunlight Mesa in the Bighorn National Forest.
The small, timber pockets were dense with spruce and sub alpine fir which are notorious for causing problems with spotting.
To mitigate the spotting potential, the burn boss chose to light them at night when the relative humidity is higher and the temperatures are lower.
This burn was conducted near the end of September.
Strong work!

Capt. Patty was one of the 1st responders on scene battling the fire. It is suspected by many that his illness and complications arouse from that... but that is yet to be determined / confirmed.
He was a brother, mentor, friend, and leader to many. Captain Patty had devoted many years of tireless service.
Please keep his family and friends in your hearts, thoughts and prayers.
RIP 18
Until we all meet again on the "Top Floor"

The hours are hard and so is the job,
But I'd give it all so you won’t sob.
To save your house, your life, your children,
I'll risk it all to enter that building.
Each day I leave my wife and child
To respond to the number that you dialed.
But if I go and do not live,
Please remember all we give.

!['New York Police Department Officer Randolph Holder spent 5 years on the force before a gunman ended his life in East Harlem, N.Y. last Tuesday, October 20, 2015
Ofc. Holder was assigned to the New York City Police Department's PSA 5, which polices the city's tough public housing developments.
Holder and his partner responded to a report of shots being fired at around 8:30 p.m. near a public housing development in East Harlem.
The officers encountered a man with a stolen bicycle on a pedestrian overpass who fired a single shot, police said. Holder, 33, was struck in the head.
His partner fired on the suspect, who had ditched the bike and fled down the river path near the highway, police said. He was caught several blocks away with a gunshot wound to his leg.
Holder was a native of Guyana. A third generation police officer, Holder had a long-time girlfriend but was not yet married and does not have any children.
His father and grandfather were both police officers in Guyana. "He always wanted to be a policeman, and that he did," said the officer's father, Randolph Holder, Sr. "He delivered his duties diligently, with pride, discipline and principle. He was very prompt, punctual, easy-going young man."
His mother is deceased, but he leaves behind three brothers, a sister, a long-time girlfriend, and many friends who love, respect and miss him dearly already.
Today hundreds of fellow officers attended the wake, part of a steady stream of mourners who filed into the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of Queens.
Video of the wake procession here:

Funeral Service is scheduled:
Wednesday: 3 p.m.
Greater Allen A. M. E. Cathedral of New York
110-31 Merrick Boulevard in Jamaica, Queens
*Only family viewing on Wednesday
Officer Holder will be buried in Georgetown, Guyana, where he is originally from.
**** COPS LIVES MATTER ****
Nationwide, 100 officers have died in the line of duty so far in 2015.
NYPD Ofc. Holder is the fourth New York City police officer murdered in the City of New York in the last 11 months.
NYPD Officer Brian Moore, 25, was killed on May 9 during a patrol. A suspect was charged with murder.
And at the end of 2014, on Dec. 20, officers Wenjian Liu, 32, and Rafael Ramos, 40 were ambushed and killed by a man who said he wanted to kill some cops in Brooklyn. The suspect killed himself in a nearby subway station.
May our Brothers and Sisters in Blue know they are loved and respected
Rest easy Brother Randolph
We have the watch from here
