Two Van Goghs and two Monets--and another Van Gogh

Impressionism-- as a movement-- took in a bunch of artists, most of them French, whose work was predictably originally denounced as not being Art at all
And of course, the only person who seemed to appreciate Vincent Van Gogh's work was his brother--
Vincent started off using a very drab palette, as shown in this painting of Women working in a peat bog in 1883

Five years later, as in this painting of  a stagecoach, he had brightened up considerably..
On the whole, the Impressionists were a pretty colorful lot, such as in this painting of flowers by Monet


This is an earlier Monet...his blurry vision came from actually having blurry vision, as becomes more and more, we see in these Water Lillies from 1919


Vincent did not paint flowers that much--
These pansies from 1887 are an exception
