With the launch of iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, prices of the previous generation iPhones have already been slashed. The iPhone 6 now has an MRP of Rs 52,000 for 16GB and Rs 62,000 for 64GB versions. The 6 Plus is available at an MRP of Rs 62,000 for 16GB and Rs72,000 for 64GB versions
Along with the standard silver, space gray and gold colours, iPhone 6S and 6S Plus have also been launched in a new rose gold hue.
While there is no increment in screen size in iPhone 6S (4.7-inch HD) and iPhone 6S (5.5-inch Full HD) compared to last year's models, the phones feature a new 3D Touch display technology, which allows the screen panel to differentiate between types of touches and taps in preloaded apps as well as on the homescreen.
Both iPhones are powered by the new A9 processor with 2GB RAM (reported) and run iOS 9 operating system. The new 64-bit A9 chipset is 70% faster at carrying out processes than the one on last year's iPhones. Similarly, the graphics processing will be 90% faster.
While the phones come in 3 storage variants - 16, 64, and 128GB, there is no support for microSD cards for storage expansions.
One of the biggest upgrades to iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus is in the cameras. The rear cameras of the two smartphones have 12MP resolution, backed by dual-tone dual-LED flash, while the front cameras have 5MP sensors. A new camera feature of iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus is Live Photos, which can turn photos into short videos. The rear camera has also got 4K recording to capture high-resolution videos.
According to Apple, the iPhone 6S delivers up to 14 hours talk time on 3G and up to 10 days standby time. The 6S Plus offers up to 24 hours talk time on 3G and up to 16 days standby time.
The new iPhones feature faster-second-generation TouchID sensor and are made of tough aircraft grade aluminium, same as Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge.
The phones support most popular connectivity options, including 4G LTE.

Samsung launches Tizen-powered Z3 smartphone, priced at Rs 8,490
TOI Tech | Oct 14, 2015, 03.20 PM IST
NEW DELHI: Samsung has expanded its range of Tizen-powered smartphones with the launch of its Z3 smartphone, only the second handset to run on the South Korean giant's own operating system.
Available exclusively online on Snapdeal, Samsung Z3 will be up for sale starting October 21 at Rs 8,490. The phone will also be sold through physical retailers.
The new Samsung Z3 smartphone has a 5-inch HD screen and runs on the Tizen OS 2.4 software. The smartphone packs a quad-core Speedtrum processor running at 1.3GHz clock speed under the hood, backed by 1GB RAM. It has 8GB of internal storage and supports microSD cards of up to 128GB capacity for storage expansion.
On the back of Samsung Z3 is an 8MP Bright Lens F2.2 camera, while its wide-angle selfie camera has 5MP resolution; the camera comes with selfie-enhancing features like Beauty Face Mode and Automatic Selfie. Its 2,600mAh battery is backed by the Ultra Power Saving Mode software, which provides standby time of up to 33 hours with less than 10% of battery life.
Connectivity suite of the smartphone consists of 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB 2.0; the lack 4G may not bode well for the handset, as even cheaper Android-powered rivals now support 4G LTE download speeds. However, Samsung has added the Ultra Data Saving Mode in the Samsung Z3, which can lower data consumption by up to 40%, the company claims.
Samsung Z3 comes preloaded with My Galaxy app, which offers India-centric services, local deals, content etc. It also features Samsung's Mix Radio music streaming app, which offers 35 million songs, including 10 genres of Indian music.
JK Shin, CEO and head of IT & mobile business, Samsung Electronics, said, "We developed the Samsung Z3 to provide the features that will help consumers capitalize on the growing Tizen ecosystem and make the most out of their personal mobile experience."

Google launches Nexus 5X, 6P in India
TOI Tech | Oct 13, 2015, 12.17 PM IST
NEW DELHI: Google has launched its new Nexus phones - Nexus 5X and 6P in India. While the search giant has partnered with Huawei for 6P, for Nexus 5X it has tied up with LG.
The Nexus 5X will be available at Rs 31,990 and Rs 35,990 for the 16GB and 32GB variants, respectively. Prebooking will start today and the phone will be available starting October 21. The 16GB version will be available online exclusively on Amazon.
The Nexus 6P is priced at Rs 39,999 and Rs 42,999 for the 32GB and 64GB versions, respectively. Prebooking starts today with wider availability commencing later. The phone will be available online exclusively on Flipkart.
Both phones come with freebies for users who prebook.
The all-new Nexus 6P has a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with QHD (1440x2560p) resolution and comes with the integrated Nexus Imprint fingerprint sensor on the back. The smartphone is reportedly powered by Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB RAM and comes in three storage variants: 32, 64 and 128GB; there is no support for storage expansion.
The smartphone has a 12.3MP rear camera (1.55micron sensor which captures more light, thus delivering better lowlight photos) that supports 4K recording and can capture videos at 240 frames per second; it is backed by a dual-LED flash. On the front is an 8MP camera, the highest resolution for selfie camera for a Nexus smartphone yet.
The smartphone features an all-metal, 7.33mm thick body in white, grey and aluminium finishes, packs a 3,450mAh battery, and comes with front-facing stereo speakers. Nexus 5X has a 5.2-inch screen with relatively lower Full HD (1080x1920p) resolution and runs on the 64-bit Snapdragon 808 processor with 2GB RAM. The storage capacities of the smartphone are 16GB and 32GB, with no microSD card support.
The 12.3MP camera of Nexus 5X also has a 1.55micron sensor and is backed by a laser autofocus for faster capturing; it can shoot videos in high-resolution 4K videos as well 120fps videos. Google said the smartphone will come with a Smart Burst feature that captures shots at 30fps, and can be used to create GIF images. Available in black, white and blue colours, the smartphone has a 2,700mAh battery.
Both smartphones sport the reversible Type C USB and supports fast-charging; the Nexus 6P charges twice as fast as iPhone 6S Plus, Google said. Android Marshmallow will be preloaded on both Nexus models.
Talking about the fingerprint sensor, Google said it will be built right into Android; named Nexus Imprint, it can recognize fingerprints in less than 600 milliseconds. This means that it can not only unlock the handset, but also works with other apps; it also authenticates app downloads in Play Store and payments in Android Pay.
The new Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P smartphones will have an integrated Android Sensor Hub that Google said will track "sensor fusion, activity recognition, gesture recognition, movements and low power times." A use-case Google spoke was that Android Sensor Hub will track when you pick up the handset and turn on the ambient display automatically.
On the software side, Google said it has reduced the number of preloaded apps, and has made uninstalling apps easier as well.
