A car fatally struck an 82-year-old man Friday while he tried to to cross Gerritsen Avenue at the Knapp Street intersection, according to the NYPD.
Police say the octogenarian, Joseph Ciresi, was walking towards his home, which sits on the southeast corner of the intersection, when a white 2005 Mercury Marquis slammed into him just before 7pm. Authorities say Ciresi suffered head trauma and was declared dead at the scene.
NBC 4 New York reports it was a livery cab that struck Ciresi. The driver was not arrested and remained at the scene, say police, who are investigating the crash.
