We received a call from Swan Sanctuary after two swans got stuck in Tottenham Lock. Distressed & tired (the swans not the firefighters) had got well and truly trapped and there would have been no way out without our help. Firefighters used inflatable boats and with the help of a swan expert released the hapless birds. Good to see the pair have recovered well http://bit.ly/1jlY4jK
West London residents had a lucky escape in the early hours of this morning after trying to burn papers on their gas fire after mistaking it for a coal-burning fire. It didn't help that the gas fire was faulty and was causing a minor gas leak at the time. It goes without saying that flames and leaking gas can be a lethal combination - it's just fortunate that firefighters got to the scene quickly and dealt with the incident before any damage was caused: http://www.london-fire.gov.uk/LatestIncidentsContainer_1210…

Devised by Kent Fire and Rescue Service, the four hour course is split into three modules covering how to manage the scene if you come across a collision, how to help an injured rider by providing early intervention at the roadside and motorcycle-specific first aid.

After investigating where the noise was coming from the firefighters cut through metal, a wooden panel and brick before finally reaching the tiny ginger and...

The lives of a mother and two children who were trapped inside a house fire in Bromley, was saved by vital fire survival guidance given to them by one of our 999 call handlers.
Brigade control officer Tom Stibbards gave vital advice to the woman, who couldn’t escape her home as it was full of smoke. He advised the family, who were in one bedroom with the door closed, to open the window to let fresh air in and to put bedding down to stop the smoke from entering the room.
