We received a call from Swan Sanctuary after two swans got stuck in Tottenham Lock. Distressed & tired (the swans not the firefighters) had got well and truly trapped and there would have been no way out without our help. Firefighters used inflatable boats and with the help of a swan expert released the hapless birds. Good to see the pair have recovered well http://bit.ly/1jlY4jK

Tim Marcham Memories  and yes a Guvnor should drill because on the fire ground ANYONE could get called upon to assist if there is need. Training is STILL as important as CFS. (Community Fire Safety)

West London residents had a lucky escape in the early hours of this morning after trying to burn papers on their gas fire after mistaking it for a coal-burning fire. It didn't help that the gas fire was faulty and was causing a minor gas leak at the time. It goes without saying that flames and leaking gas can be a lethal combination - it's just fortunate that firefighters got to the scene quickly and dealt with the incident before any damage was caused: http://www.london-fire.gov.uk/LatestIncidentsContainer_1210…

Richard Stokoe Being a pedant here - if it "It goes without saying that flames and leaking gas can be a lethal combination" then why did you say it?
Aileen Kane Och for goodness sake! Who mistakes a gas fire for a coal-fired? I mean, whit kind of eejit........thank feck for Fire and Rescue Services. The current government are, meanwhile , plundering their pay, conditions and pensions. Sad world.
We attend hundreds of road crashes involving motorcycles every year. In response we’ve introduced Biker Down! London a free scheme to help bikers if they’re involved in a crash.
Devised by Kent Fire and Rescue Service, the four hour course is split into three modules covering how to manage the scene if you come across a collision, how to help an injured rider by providing early intervention at the roadside and motorcycle-specific first aid.

Dave Lumley Great initiative - probably worth adding to the bike safe course
Firefighters came to the rescue of little ‘Ken’ the kitten this week who found himself trapped in between a brick wall and a shop front in Forest Gate. The crew from Stratford were called to the scene after the RSPCA could hear the cat crying, but could not reach him because he was trapped in a gap just a few inches wide.
After investigating where the noise was coming from the firefighters cut through metal, a wooden panel and brick before finally reaching the tiny ginger and...

Robert Mansfield Gill Forde. To call firefighters overpaid morons, is absolutely appalling. Firefighters go above and beyond when it comes to helping the public, and unlike the police, at least they turn up when you call them. I only hope, you don't find yourself trapp...See More

The lives of a mother and two children who were trapped inside a house fire in Bromley, was saved by vital fire survival guidance given to them by one of our 999 call handlers.
Brigade control officer Tom Stibbards gave vital advice to the woman, who couldn’t escape her home as it was full of smoke. He advised the family, who were in one bedroom with the door closed, to open the window to let fresh air in and to put bedding down to stop the smoke from entering the room.

Robert Mansfield Well done Mr Stibbards. I'm sure you would look upon it as 'all in a days work', but I am sure the mother & her children are extremely grateful to you and the fire crews who went to their aid.
Jamie Timms Well done Tom and to the crews that carried out the rescue

A group of big hearted firefighters from Lee Green fire station have started a charity which is campaigning for schools to be defibrillator protected. Working in partnership with ‘For Jimmy’ (previously the Jimmy Mizen Foundation) and supported by St John Ambulance and the Brigade, the Firefighter Foundation recently presented Trinity School in Lewisham with one of the life saving devices. You can read more about the charity here: http://www.firefighterfoundation.org.uk/

Jack Phelan Well done! Im a fire cadet in Cornwall and I'm trying to raise money for a public access defibrillator in Saltash. It costs £3,000 as you probably know, for an outside cabinet and defib. Keep up the good work guys and lets make the UK #Heartsafe
Terry Rea Great to see a positive post. Well done to all involved.
