Syria: Russia-USA agreement possible
The Russian and US military are close to an agreement to avoid air collision over Syria, said Wednesday the Russian Ministry of Defence after a third round of negotiations.
"We see the combination of our positions on the key points of the future document," the ministry said, quoted by Russian news agencies.
"We agreed on the procedure for future actions," the ministry added, after the negotiations which took place via videoconference.
Russia has undertaken since September 30 to lead in turn airstrikes against the rebels in Syria, to support the regime of Bashar al-Assad of which it is one of the main allies.
The United States is on their side at the head of a broad coalition that bombards for over a year in Syria and Iraq, the jihadist Islamic State group.
This coexistence in the Syrian sky, in an unprecedented international context of tension since the Cold War, has raised fears of incidents with unpredictable consequences.
A spokesman for the Pentagon and warned Tuesday against a situation "dangerous", while Russian and American military aircraft were found Saturday just "few miles" from each other.
