The Film Noir of the Month for October is Black Angel (1946). Prowling through our Film Noir of the Month files (which can be accessed just below the Kiss of Noir banner), I discovered to my horror that we've had nothing based on a Cornell Woolrich, one of my favourite noir/pulp writers. So, this month I thought we'd correct that heinous fault. If you've read nothing by him then I'd heartily recommend Rendez-vous in Black (48).

I well remember Mr Duryea and Mr Lorre; do not recall June Vincent. Dan Duryea once spoke at my school, Belmont High, in LA, in 1955. You can bet we were all there!

Jim Patterson "In this Edwardian set film noir" -- I wonder when people will realize how ridiculous this has gotten.
Cheryl Winn Jim Patterson I dont know if you intended to be rude, but we dont mock what people write and post on this site. You certainly have a right to your opinion ,but could you please find a more tactful way to express it? This author is highly respected and knowledgeable , but we respect all efforts.

It seems that a fair number of noirs deal with mental illness as a central theme. Possessed, Betwitched, Beware My Lovely etc. I am watching Bewitched today. Arch Obler was a pretty amateurish writer/director. And his ability to get a natural performance out of his actors is nonexistent. Overall, about on par with most of his other films which is damning by faint praise.

Jim Patterson i agree with your statement "...this may not be the best film noir ever made..." but, IMO...it WAS a film noir.
Debbi Mack Oh, definitely! smile emoticon Lots of noir action going there.
Jameson Lewis III Great movie! One of my favorite scenes is captured above.
Debbi Mack I am a sucker for anything with Lee Van Cleef in it! smile emoticon
Marie Tinelli Viti How can you pick a better group than Jack Elam, Lee VanClef & Neville Brand to conduct a heist?

Cause for Alarm! is a film noir from 1951 directed by Tay Garnett of The Postman Always Rings Twice fame and starring Loretta Young. Check out the full review of this little gem and let me know if you have seen this one yet.
Cause for Alarm! is a classic film noir from 1951. This film is directed by Tay Garnett, who returned to his noir roots 5 years after The Postman Always Rings Twice. Though these are two very diffe...

Today's Lunchtime crime cavalcade is Railroaded (1947). One of the "innocent man framed for a crime he didn't commit" genre. Hugh Beaumont plays the tough detective to John Ireland's rotten to the core criminal who has a weird affectation for rubbing his gat with perfume. Directed by Anthony Mann.
