Between 80,000 and 100,000 in national demonstration

Wednesday's national demonstration came to a close around 4pm, when the roads in Brussels were reopened for traffic. The action was aimed against the "indigestible" policy agreement adopted by the Charles Michel government that was installed one year ago, trades unions say. Police are talking about 81,000 protesters, unions of 100,000.

07/10/15 - The collision between a cargo ship and an enormous gas tanker off the Zeebrugge coast yesterday morning has severe consequences. As oil continues to leak from the freighter that sank - a new leak was discovered this morning - marine and bird life could be threatened. The Flemish-Dutch natural area Het Zwin at the coast is being protected by a sand wall.

Scuffles at South Station

07/10/15 - Scuffles have produced at the Brussels South Station just after the national demonstration organised by trades unions. A couple of dozens rioters dared the police by throwing objects. Police used the water canon and tear gas to calm things down. The situation was quickly under control.

Trades unions are holding a large demonstration in Brussels today. As a result, metro, tram and bus services in Brussels are heavily disrupted, as well as services offered by the Flemish public transport company De Lijn, particularly in larger cities in East Flanders and Antwerp.

Flemish PM honours Martin Luther King

6/10/15 - The Flemish Prime Minister Geert Bourgeois has laid a wreath at the grave of the American black rights activist Martin Luther King. Mr Bourgeois was joined by the Dutch Premier Mark Rutte, who is co-chairing the Flemish-Dutch trade mission to Atlanta, Georgia. Mr Bourgeois also met with Bernice King, the reverend’s daughter.
