KID GETS BULLIED-FIREFIGHTERS TO THE RESCUE!

Wednesday, October 14, 2015    This was a CLOSE CALL for an autistic kid, and Firefighters and EMT's in Linden, New Jersey went above and beyond...which should be no surprise. Station WIAT did a great job covering this emotional story-that we are passing on to you via The Secret List. A young autistic boy, bullied on the school bus, has some real-life superheroes in his corner now — his firefighters.

To many these new basketball shoes look like just sneakers. But to 12-year-old Jonathan Moran, they mean a lot more. “I love them a lot,” said Jonathan.

On Thursday, the 7th grader was bullied on the bus to school. “Started making fun of my sneakers and calling me fat, plus he called me stupid,” said Jonathan. When he got on the bus to go home it escalated. “Started punching me, he broke my glasses, split my lip and gave me bruises around my face,” said Jonathan.

Wednesday, October 14, 2015    Firefighter Tim Pastore stepped back for a moment on Thursday after seeing the damage to the fire engine he was driving nearly a week earlier that collided head on with a passenger car.

"I don't remember it being this bad," he said as he assessed the pumper's wreckage.

He doesn't recall the extremity of the crashed truck, because as soon as the engine came to a stop at the bottom of the 30 foot embankment west of War Hill Park Road on Hwy. 53, he and volunteer firefighter Eli Kesting, jumped to the attention of the young lady in the passenger car that was in dire need of medical care.

"We were more concerned about her," Kesting said. "The most important thing for us was to help her."

Kesting, who joined the department as a volunteer less than a year ago, and Pastore, a 10 year fire service veteran, did exactly what their training has led them to do, even as the injuries they sustained in the crash began to come apparent.
