Today Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams honored FDNY Lieutenant Victor Milukas of Ladder Company 159 as Brooklyn’s Hero of the Month. On August 24 Lt. Milukas and fellow Firefighters from Ladder Company 159 rescued two year old Justin Chase Pierre from a fire that left him unconscious when his bedroom became engulfed by flames.
“Through intense heat, blinding smoke and truly deadly conditions they were able to get to Chase, and bring him out to safety” said First Deputy Commissioner Robert Turner.
“It’s just amazing”, said Lt. Milukas. “It changed my life and most people that I know that were there, it changed theirs.” Lt. Milukas continued, “it’s not just an honor for me, but for all the guys at the fire department”.

Chase sustained injuries from the fire, but thanks to the quick response and actions of Lt. Milukas, his fellow Firefighters, and responding EMTs, Chase has made a full recovery.
On September 22 Lt. Milukas and Chase were all smiles when they reunited for the first time since the August 24 fire. Today Lt. Milukas and Chase met again at Brooklyn Borough Hall, accompanied by their families.

“We’re recognizing Lt. Milukas for his brave work, and we’re also acknowledging the team that worked hand in hand to get Chase the urgent care he needed and transport him to the hospital,” said Chief of Department James Leonard. “There’s no greater feeling as a Chief than to see a young child happy and smiling and knowing that our members saved his life.”
