SHILLINGTON, Pa. — Emergency responders have always been willing to help others in need. This month they’re are also helping themselves.
Recently, the wife of long-time paramedic Christopher Day of the Southern Berks Regional Ambulance Squad was diagnosed with breast cancer. To offset medical costs — and to show support for this month’s Breast Cancer Awareness observance — members of Local 4933 of the International Association of Firefighter, comprised of Southern Berks Regional Emergency Medical Services, Western Berks Regional Emergency Medical Service and the City of Reading Fire Department-EMS, have launched a drive to sell imprinted T-shirts to the community.
“This,” said Timothy Musser, deputy chief of Southern Berks EMS, “serves a dual purpose. A portion of the funds from the sale of the shirts, which cost $20, will help to pay the medical bills of one of our own; the balance will go to the Breast Awareness Campaign.”
