STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Labor Day is Monday, Sept. 7. Here is a look at what is open and closed in observance of the holiday.
Staten Island Advance: Will not publish
Banks: Some open
Financial Markets: Closed
Government Offices:
City -- closed
State -- closed
Federal -- closed
Courts:
Federal -- closed
State -- closed 
U.S. Post Offices: Closed
Sanitation: No garbage, recycling, organics collection or street cleaning.
Residents who normally receive Monday garbage and organics collection should place their trash and organic materials out at curbside after 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, for pickup.
Residents receiving Monday recycling collection should place their items curbside, after 4 p.m, on Sunday, Sept. 13, for pickup on Monday, Sept. 14.
In addition, DSNY administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of the holiday.
City Parking Violations Bureau:
Parking meter regulations are suspended. On major legal holidays, stopping, standing and parking are permitted except in areas where stopping, standing and parking rules are in effect seven days a week (e.g., "No Standing Anytime").
Mass transit:
Staten Island Railway: The MTA will be continuing its Early Departure Getaway service on the Staten Island Railway (SIR) for Labor Day Weekend. Commuters looking to get a head start on their three-day weekend will be able to catch earlier afternoon express train service on Friday, Sept. 4.
This schedule means extra SIR trains will be added earlier in the afternoon, beginning at 2:30 p.m., from the St. George Ferry Terminal. There will be one express train and one local train awaiting every boat until 7:50 p.m.
SIR will operate on a Sunday Schedule on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7.
Staten Island Ferry: Holiday schedule -- on Labor Day, the ferry will provide service every 30 minutes between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Hourly service resumes at 11 p.m.
New York City Subways and Buses: MTA New York City Transit subways and buses and MTA Bus Company buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7.
Colleges:
St. John's -- closed
CSI -- closed
Wagner -- closed
State Department of Motor Vehicles: Closed
