Over 600 people visited our museum on its last day before its relocation.
Our museum will be going back home to its original location, at the listed former Brigade headquarters on Albert Embankment, where it will be close to an operational fire station.
It’s going to be between three and five years before the new museum opens, but you can keep up to date with the latest information by signing up to our mailing list here http://www.london-fire.gov.uk/london-fire-brigade-museum.asp

A smoke alarm fitted by firefighters two years ago at a house in Hounslow saved the lives of a family of 15 last weekend.
The fire was in the ground floor bedroom of the large family home and they were alerted to the blaze by their smoke alarm sounding.
Watch Manager Nigel Murray who was at the scene, praised the occupants for following advice crews had given to close the doors, get everyone out and call the Brigade.

Burnt toast binned in a flat in Sutton spoiled more than breakfast last week.
The toast burnt after the occupant became distracted whilst cooking. The Brigade’s fire investigators believe the fire started after the burnt bread was thrown into a plastic waste bin whilst still hot. Fortunately no-one was injured in the blaze, but part of the kitchen was damaged along with two plastic waste bins.
You should never leave cooking unattended, not even toast and if you have to leave...

A few weekends ago our LFB Fire Cadets were joined at Croydon fire station by cadets from the Metropolitan Police and St John’s Ambulance for the first ever Emergency Services Day.
The cadets put what they had learnt to use by teaching the other young people the skills they have learnt on their respective programmes. These were then put to the test as part of two simulated incidents.
Half of the cadets turned actors playing the role of victims, casualties, difficult neighbour...

We remember the seven people who died and the 139 people injured at the Southall rail crash, which happened on this day in 1997.
Our thoughts are also with the firefighters who worked to free those trapped in the wreckage.

Seventy-five years ago today, Auxiliary fireman Harry Errington carried out a remarkable act of bravery which led to him being the only firefighter to receive the George Cross during WW2.
Just before midnight, a bomb virtually demolished a three-storey garage, the basement of which was used as an air raid shelter by Auxiliary Fire Service personnel. The floors caved in and 20 people, including six firemen were killed outright.
Harry recovered consciousness and upon escape res...

A huge well done if you correctly guessed the fire below was caused by a desk lamp - this one wasn't easy! Investigators believe the lamp ignited bedding and the fire then spread around the rest of the room.
Lamps can get really hot whilst on so make sure you keep them away from materials that may catch fire such as bedding, curtains, furniture and clothes.
Fortunately no-one was injured on this occasion, but you might not be so lucky. Share this with anyone who enjoys bedtime reading by lamplight.
