L'Elysée a annoncé dimanche avoir mené de premières frappes aériennes en Syrie contre l'Etat islamique, en coordination avec la coalition internationale.

The army French first led to strikes in Syria. They were formally announced by a statement from the Elysee, Sunday, Sept. 27, without precise places of operations and dates.

Reportedly, the strikes have taken place Thursday, September 24th. The relevant targets ranged including Rakka, the city of the center of the country that is considered the stronghold of the organization Islamic state.
President Francois Hollande announced on September 7 after Syria first reconnaissance flights conducted the next day, the strikes would follow, justified by legitimate defense.
The statement from the Elysee released Sunday says:
"We did it on the basis of information collected during the air operations engaged for more than two weeks, in the respect of our autonomy of action, in coordination with our coalition partners. "
The arm ed hit "all those who threaten France" had for its part said Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in an interview with Le Monde on September 18. But if the French Air Force is integrated into the American command to strike in Iraq, Parisinsists saying that Syria operations are conducted independently. "We are integrated to secure the Syrian sky made by the Americans, but we have our discretion, our intelligence targets and actions, "said Mr Le Drian in the world.

Training centers covered

And will be covered in the coming weeks, command centers, training camps and logistics of the terrorist organization, what the military call the "centers of gravityé" of the opponent. According to the defense, it does not act of a "massive campaign of strikes", but targeted hits.
The French intelligence, strengthened by a computer operation cyber command of the staff who went back to the group, identified several target of EI to Rakka. These first strikes could have targeted a headquarters which would be sponsored numerous attacks on the Europe and France in particular.

American, Russian, Syrian: crowded skies above Rakka

The intervention of French aircraft in the area is not without risks. The troops of Bashar al-Assad, recently, also hit new fighters EI. In addition, Russia has, in recent days, strengthened its military capabilities in Syria in support of the regime, by installing thirty reconnaissance aircraft and ground attack, Sukhoi 24 and 30. The sky Rakka is potentially crowded.
In Paris, the defense sources had initially allowed to hear that the air force would intervene only in areas in which the Syrians had not flying, they - and anti-air defenses that go with - not penetrating the regions east of the 38th parallel. However, in Deir Zor Ei-like Rakka, Bashar army continues to bomb the IE.
This confirms our reports that France was part of the coordination of fact, new, made between forces, American and Syrian primarily, against Daech. The Russian fighter jets, but also Syrian, will not be the targets, provided they do not commit attacks against anti-aircraft EI coalition. Mr Le Drian assured the world that there was "no" reciprocal information with the Russians and the Syrians.

Some 200 French strikes in Iraq

Some 800 French soldiers are deployed in the Chammal operation since 2014. In Iraq, it covers flight operations within the international coalition led by the US forces, but also consulting the Iraqi army in Baghdad, and assistance missions armed peshmerga Kurdish. Sixty specialists are inserted in the coalition headquarters in Tempa (Florida) in Kuwait, Baghdad, and especially to HQ Air Operations Al Udeid in Qatar. In Iraq, France has conducted 200 strikes, or 5% of the total, since September 2014.
