Yesterday morning Pete and I WALKED to the cafe and got coffee then WALKED outside to enjoy the beautiful morning together.
Rehab has been amazing!
It was such an emotional and mental boost for Pete.
After just 3 days, Pete can get himself sitting up on the edge of the bed and to a standing position (it used to take 3 people).
He can feed himself and brush his teeth with modified hand straps.
The more he exercises, the better he feels.
Going home is finally within reach. σΎ’°❤

On August 30, a new fire broke out on the island of Kornat, part of the Kornati National park. A team of 23 firemen was sent on a Mi-8 helicopter on what they thought would be just a routine mission.
Upon arrival, they split into two teams, one with 6 firemen and the other with 17.
The latter split up one more time when three firemen lost their communication gear and again when the fourth one went checking for the signal, while trying to call his superiors. The remaining 13 were stranded between two hills with no water whatsoever, since the large water canister landed 500 meters away from them.
While searching for it, they got encircled by a wall of fire. Although the burning grass was only 10 cm tall, the firemen didn't have the necessary equipment and had nowhere to run.
In only a minute, six of them were killed instantly, while the other seven remained lying on the ground, badly burned, waiting for help more than two hours.
After the rescue, they were sent to the hospital in Zadar and then transferred to hospitals in Zagreb and Split.
Six of them died in hospital because of serious burns covering large areas of their bodies.
The fire itself had nowhere to spread, and was soon naturally extinguished, bringing up many questions about the necessity of the intervention.
Official report states that they have died from a natural phenomenon called "eruptive fire".
Allegedly, the firemen were killed by an unexploded CBU-87dumped over Kornat island by NATO planes returning from the Kosovo war in 1999.

This is the letter we hoped to never have to write...
However, it is with sadness and much regret to inform you that after a hard and courageous battle, our amazing brother, Donovan Eckhardt, has answered his final alarm.
Donovan passed away peacefully at his house on August 24, 2015 around 9:00 p.m. in the presence of his family and his closest friends
Donovan lived a 37 year life dedicated to serving others. He served as a wildland firefighter in California, worked for Tri-med Ambulance Company, and worked other volunteer firefighting jobs prior to starting as a professional firefighter for the Renton Fire Department in 2008. He also served with the Firefighter Cancer Support Network.
Words cannot begin to express how much Donovan will be missed. This is a very sad day for the Renton Fire Department and the City of Renton.
Donovan was the consummate professional and… quite simply, “THE guy” you wanted to work with on your shift.
His sense of humor, his unbelievable work ethic, and his very sincere concern for the citizens he worked for came so naturally for him and made it a pleasure to serve with him. Donovan raised the bar high for all of us that worked alongside of him.
In addition to his fire department family, Donovan will be missed by his expectant wife, Jaime, young son Will, mother Karen, and brother Gannon and his wife Brooke.
Planning for Donovan’s services are already well underway. The memorial will likely be in mid-September. We will provide details and updates in the coming days. In the meantime, please keep all of the Eckhardt’s in your thoughts and prayers.
Also, please familiarize yourself with, and consider a donation to the non-profit @[885418224838203:274:I Am Lionhardt] foundation that was set up by Donovan’s co-workers to serve as a legacy of our fallen brother and further cancer awareness.
Rest in Peace, Donovan.
