45 firefighters have battled an early morning fire at a disused Footscray factory.

Local heroes Edward Ruska and Shane Holcroft have been presented MFB Chief Commendations for saving a child from a Hampton house fire in 2013.
The pair noticed the kitchen fire, called 000 and began attacking the blaze with a garden hose as they waited for MFB to arrive. They also broke into the house to rescue a 13-year-old child.
