LAFD Photo Gallery: WESTLAKE VILLAGE - Firefighters and aviators from across The Golden State joined civic leaders, friends and members of the Los Angeles Fire Department in honoring LAFD Firefighter/Pilot Steven L. Robinson at a memorial service on August 29, 2015. The 50 year-old died on August 9, 2015 of lingering complications from critical injuries sustained in a March 1998 LAFD helicopter crash. His efforts as a pilot to overcome a mechanical failure of the helicopter, including steering the craft away from occupied homes, earned him wide praise. Though unable to return to full flight duty, he remained an active and admired member of the LAFD, serving as a Firefighter/Dispatcher at the time of his death.
