We deal with more than ten a fires a week in housing where care is provided so we’re delighted by the news that Barking and Dagenham Council has installed life saving sprinklers in 22 of its high rise blocks and in four of its extra care homes. Remember six-year-old Thomas from Honiton in Devon who wrote us a fantastic letter asking whether we used foam at the Kingsway fire earlier this year?
He was invited to an exclusive day out with our firefighters which took place last weekend. They were shown how firefighters train, enjoyed a trip down the Thames on our fire boat and were given a tour of a fire station.
His mum Catherine said after: “The boys loved it, we had a totally amazing and fantastic day.”

The event was a huge success with over 1,000 people attending and raising a total of £1,750 for the Firefighters Charity and St Raphael’s Hospice.
